Known Issues
As fanfiction.lol is in active development and run by a single person, there are some known issues and limitations you should be aware of:
Data Loss Risk
This is a development site. Data may be accidentally deleted during development or maintenance. Please do not store important content here that you cannot afford to lose. Always keep backups of your work.
Downtime
As a single-person operation, maintenance or technical issues may cause unexpected downtime. The site runs on home hardware, so power outages or internet issues at my end could affect availability.
Feature Instability
Active development means features may break, change, or be removed without notice. Something that works today might not work tomorrow after an update.
Limited Support
One person is handling everything - development, moderation, support, and maintenance. Response times for issues, requests, or support tickets will be slower than larger archives.
Search Reliability
Search functionality depends on Elasticsearch. If the search service has issues, search may be slow, return incomplete results, or be temporarily unavailable.
Email Notifications
Email notifications are sent through SendGrid. If there are issues with the email service, you might not receive comment notifications, kudos emails, or other notifications.
Performance
The site runs on home hardware with limited resources. You may experience slower load times compared to larger archives, especially during peak usage or when background jobs are running.
Mobile Experience
The site has not been fully tested on mobile devices. You may encounter layout or functionality issues when using the site on a phone or tablet.
Content Warnings
The expanded content warnings (Systemic Oppression, Colonialism, Ableism, Homophobia/Transphobia, Racism, RPF) are new and may not be consistently applied to existing works. The tagging system is still being refined.
Reporting Issues
If you encounter an issue not listed here, please report it. You can email [email protected] or find me on Mastodon at @[email protected]. Include details about what you were trying to do and what happened.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as I work to improve the site!
