Homemade Montreal Steak Seasoning takes only 5 minutes to mix up and adds a powerhouse of spice flavors to your favorite recipes.

Montreal Seasoning Ingredients

Wondering what’s in Montreal steak seasoning? Homemade Montreal seasoning requires 8 different spices, however many you probably already have in your pantry: paprika, black pepper, kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder, ground coriander, red pepper flakes and dill seeds.

Montreal Steak Seasoning Marinade

To turn this Montreal seasoning mix into a steak marinade, just mix the below ingredients in a small mixing bowl and pour over the protein.

  • 2 lb. chicken or beef
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 tsp Montreal steak seasoning

Substitution Options

As written, this spice mix includes dill seeds, but feel free to sub in dill weed if that’s what you have in your cabinet.

Variations

Spicy – Amp up the heat by doubling, or even tripling, the red pepper flakes.

Want A Hint of Smoke? Add in 1 Tablespoon of smoked paprika in place of the regular paprika.

Like Garlic? This homemade steak seasoning can handle a double hit of garlic powder.

Prefer Less Salt? Omit the salt and add it a 1/4 teaspoon at a time until your desired salt level is reached.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Paprika
  • 2 tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 2 tbsp Kosher Salt
  • 2 tbsp Freshly Cracked Black Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tbsp Ground Coriander
  • 1 tbsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1 tsp Dill Seed ((*Note 1))

Instructions

  • Add all the spices to a small bowl and mix to combine. Store in an air-tight container for up to 6 months.

Notes

Note 1 – Montreal Steak Seasoning uses dill seed, but you can substitute 1 tablespoon dill weed if desired.
Storage: Store this spice blend covered in the pantry for up to 6 months.
