Chris Haikney

Welcome to my Github profile page. The projects highlighted here are of two types:

Who am I?

My website can be found at https://www.haikney.es -- the information there will generally be the most up-to-date and definitive.

Why is there no profile pic? Am I human? Yes. And honest. And good at stuff. You should totally hire me. (When was the last time someone tried to scam you and didn't have a fine looking profile photo?)

Key projects at 42 Urduliz

If you're here looking to see what I can do, perhaps I sent you a CV, then aside from my LinkedIn page and my personal website I'll draw your attention to these projects from the common core of projects at the 42 school in Urduliz:

Details of specific outcomes are there in the repositories, but in general I hope that they show a process of development and increasing understanding of the respective languages, product management (scope, division of labour), and a useful final product.

(To find out more about the Common Core curriculum at 42 there's their page for businesses or their FAQs page).

FOSS contributions

I have gained a lot from Free Software / software libre projects and I'm striving to contribute back in various ways. I hope I can bring fresh perspectives to some projects (what mindfulness people call "beginner's mind"). What does that mean concretely? Sometimes people deeply involved and close to a codebase are so accustomed to the way it is, that they may not notice issues that could ease the user experience (UX) and bring it to a new or wider audience. While I am building my skills and experience this might be a key niche that I can occupy.

Please note that I do not use AI tools for any part of my contributions, unless I explicitly say so in the messages. That goes triple for commit messages and other communication. I want to respect your time and I am not here harvesting followers or stars. I hope that even my most trivial contributions add value to the projects, and I am happy to engage in any improvements that a PR may need.

My biggest FOSS project at the moment is a port of Cantata to the Qt6 toolkit. Motivated by desire to learn Qt and GUI programming, as well as gratitude for the use I've had of the program, a desire to continue to be able to use it.

On the FOSS theme, I also have an account on Codeberg it may be that there is more activity there.
