First and foremost a graphical user interface (GUI) for managing every setting when it comes to Winget-AutoUpdate (WAU)...
...but, it's really so much more than that:
- An information collector (settings, versions, paths, last run)
- Screenshot source
- Work in progress...
After seeing a few users (over the years) mentioning some sort of graphical interface for the settings of WAU, @G0rocks - Huldar, the Icelandic scout - finally made a request:
Allow reconfiguration (settings) after install
Initially, I responded as a corporate administrator, pointing out that everything proposed could be done locally using GPO by importing the ADMX/ADML files.
But I began reflecting on the issue a little bit more when a reply later on in that thread contained:
"../I am assuming that the project is not only built for corporations (since I don't see anything about that on the homepage of the repo)/.."
After consulting Mr Claude about the feasibility (having just upgraded to a Pro plan), I completed the first version of this GUI.
The following month was intense/insane, me coding away in Vibe Style and making commit after commit (they finally reached 100+) when the wise WAU Repo owner said it out loud:
"../This would be another thing to maintain (author's addition: for all of us), for something not requiring daily adjustments./.."
I came to the same conclusion and decided that this would be a perfect thing for an add-on in my own repository, making sure I have something to do when retiring from work in a couple of years.
And now 5.5K+ lines of code later, I really do understand the reluctance to integrate this in WAU!
