I was coming on here to discuss the exact same issue! I've tried to verify my account as a student 4 or 5 times now and have gotten nothing but rejection. I've similarly tried uploading files directly from my computer and taking pictures directly with my device, but nothing has seemed to work. I even tried to directly contact support services but apparently they no longer accept requests regarding verification issues?? I'm sorry to say that I don't know how to help, but I thought it might provide some assurance that this is not only happening to you!

Same here — I'm a faculty applicant and I've been rejected more than ten times.

Exactly as you both describe: camera capture gets rejected with reasons that contradict what's printed on my document, and "Upload a file" gets rejected with "Please use your device camera to submit academic affiliation documents." So neither path works. My three most recent rejections listed no reasons at all — the "Issues to address" section was completely empty, in both the web UI and the email. Nothing to fix.

I also waited two weeks between attempts in case repeat submissions were the cause. Same empty-reason rejection.

And yes, individual manual verification is no longer offered, so there's no way to escalate.

No solution to offer, unfortunately — just confirming this is happening to faculty applicants too, with documents that meet every stated requirement.

Sorry you're having a bad time on GitHub. It sounds like you've already sent what they need for verification, so sending the same papers again probably won't help.
Since your school email is verified and you've shown your student ID and other papers, you should talk to GitHub Education Support. Tell them you've tried many times and list the documents you sent. They can tell you if there's a specific problem with your application or if someone needs to look at it by hand.
Being away from your usual spot during the break shouldn't stop verification on its own, but only the GitHub Education team can say why you're being rejected.
