This updates the Go version from 1.18 to 1.20 and because YAML was confusing 1.20 with 1.2, the Go version is now quoted in YAML files. With the update, a few deprecations became errors and these are also fixed in this PR.
#1188 has a followup issue that I left out to keep this minimal.
