– Digital Share Auto for Rural & Outskirt Connectivity.

Rurmo is a smart, location-aware digital share auto booking system designed to bridge the mobility gap between city outskirts and rural areas. With affordability, safety, and accessibility at its core, Rurmo aims to empower people in underserved regions with reliable shared transportation.

💭 Origin of the Idea..

One evening around 7:30 PM, I was trying to return home from the city outskirts. As the sun had already set, the area started to get quiet, and there were no shared autos in sight. I waited for over 30 minutes near a junction hoping for an auto to pass by, but:

->There were no fixed routes, so I had no idea where to stand exactly.

->It felt unsafe waiting in a dark, isolated spot.

-> couldn’t tell if any autos were coming, or if they were already full.

->Public transport like buses had stopped or were too infrequent.

->Ride-hailing apps like Ola/Uber don’t operate in such semi-rural zones.

This experience made me realize that thousands of people in rural and edge-of-city areas face the same challenge every day — especially women, students, and the elderly. That’s when the idea struck me:

This moment of frustration became the spark for Rurmo, a solution designed to bring reliability, safety, and accessibility to daily transport in underserved regions. 🌏 🚀

🧠 Problem Statement

In many developing regions, particularly in city outskirts and rural areas, transportation remains inconsistent, inconvenient, and unorganized. Public transport options are limited, and traditional auto-rickshaw services often don't follow fixed schedules or routes. There is no unified digital platform to book or share auto rides, which results in:

▫️ Loss of earnings for drivers due to uncoordinated trips.

▫️ Safety and fare concerns due to a lack of standardization.

▫️ Buses may run only a few times a day; taxis are expensive. Shared autos fill this gap affordably.

▫️ ❓ No visibility into nearby autos or their occupancy

▫️ 💸 Drivers work unorganized and can't optimize income

🛠️ Approach & Solution:

🎯 Objective:

To create a smart, reliable, and affordable digital share auto booking platform that connects city outskirts with nearby villages and rural areas — where traditional transport is inconsistent or unavailable.

🔍 Our Approach:

  1. Understand Rural Mobility Challenges

▫️ Analyze why existing ride-hailing services (like Ola/Uber) don’t serve rural/semi-urban areas effectively.

▫️ Focus on problems like lack of schedules, unstructured driver operations, and passenger uncertainty.

2.Design a Localized Booking System

▫️ Develop a simple, multilingual mobile/web app tailored to users who may not be tech-savvy.

▫️ Integrate low-data usage features, and optionally offline or SMS-based booking.

3.Use Route-Based Geo-Logic

▫️ Implement booking restrictions so users can only book if they are within 250–300 meters of the auto’s route, ensuring practical matching. This avoids mismatches and ensures the auto doesn't go off-track.

4.Support Both Drivers & Passengers

▫️ Build a driver dashboard for marking availability, tracking earnings, and viewing bookings.

▫️ Provide passengers real-time data on auto location, driver contact, seat availability, and fare estimate.

5.Enable Safety & Trust

▫️ Verify drivers during registration.

▫️ Add rating and review systems.

▫️ Provide driver photo, vehicle number, and live tracking for safety.

6.Design for Scalability

▫️ Start with pilot in one rural-urban zone.

▫️ Easily replicate for other small towns and rural belts by modifying routes and onboarding more local drivers.
