FT8TW

[🙏 Thanks to FT8CN]
Many thanks to BG7YOZ and N0BOY
for creating and maintaining such an interesting and convenient program, FT8CN.
It has greatly reduced the amount of equipment and cables I need to carry for SOTA operations in the mountains.
Aside from the essential radio, battery, and antenna, I no longer need to bring a computer and a pile of tangled cables.
This reduces the overall weight while hiking and also saves many steps when setting up a SOTA station.

Conversely, in bad weather such as rain and strong wind, this setup allows me to quickly pack everything and put it back into my backpack.
This helps reduce body heat loss and lowers the risk of the equipment getting damp.
Once again, I’m truly grateful to both of you.

The FT8TW version is a set of modifications I made to better support my preferred SOTA activities.
As mentioned above, the goal is to help me complete SOTA activations more quickly and safely.

You can download the app from the following page (I divide releases into three types: Stable, Test, and Debug):

  • Stable version: Recommended for SOTA activations in the mountains.
  • Test version: Used for ongoing development and for users who are willing to help test.
  • Debug version: For troubleshooting specific issues only. Unless I specifically ask you to use it, it’s not recommended for general use.

You can also download the app from the official Google Play Store.
Other than GitHub and Google Play, I strongly recommend not downloading this app from any other source,
as those versions may be modified by attackers.

[🐞 Issue Reporting]
I mainly follow feedback on the Facebook group and on GitHub.
Since I am not retired yet and my child is still in school, I cannot devote all of my time and energy to this app.

If you encounter issues while using it, I will do my best to find time to improve the system.
However, the original goal is:

“To make it easy and fast for SOTA operators to complete summit activations in the mountains.”

Please also try to put yourself in my shoes: if you were developing this app for free in your limited spare time,
you would probably appreciate encouragement and positive interaction as well.
Let’s help each other grow and make the world a better place.

I know many ham radio operators are not familiar with software development.
If you have questions about how to use the app, or encounter bugs, you can report them on GitHub or on Facebook.

When reporting an issue, please describe in as much detail as possible:

  • what you were doing before the problem occurred,
  • what exactly happened,
  • and attach screenshots or videos if possible.

If the report only says “FT8TW has a problem”,
“FT8TW crashed again”, or
“FT8TW can’t control my radio”,
it will be very hard for me to take the next step in troubleshooting.
Please keep this in mind when submitting issues.

I also have a YouTube channel.
When I have time, I’ll organize and upload videos sharing tips and usage experiences.

[🌈 Seeking volunteers]
I am looking for friends who can help write the user manual. I’m really too busy, and I’m not sure if anyone would be willing to help create and maintain the documentation.

[🌈 Acknowledgements]
Thanks to the following OMs for helping with testing (if I missed anyone, please kindly remind me).
