Welcome to copilot-rules! This is a community-driven collection of settings and coding guidelines for GitHub Copilot. If you use Visual Studio Code, these guidelines will help you share and improve coding practices with the support of AI.
You can contribute by suggesting new rules or refining what we have. This project evolves based on our community’s contributions, making it better for everyone involved.
To get started, you’ll want to download the software from our Releases page. Follow the steps below to easily access and install copilot-rules.
Before you download, check if your system meets these simple requirements:
- Operating System: Windows, macOS, or Linux
- Visual Studio Code: Version 1.50 or newer
- Memory: At least 4 GB RAM is recommended
- Disk Space: At least 100 MB of free space

Visit this page to download: Go to our Releases page.

Find the latest release: Look for the most recent version listed on the page. The latest release will have the most up-to-date features and fixes.

Download the ZIP file: Click on the release tag to access the download options. Download the ZIP file to your computer.

Extract the ZIP file: Once the download is complete, find the ZIP file in your downloads folder. Right-click it and choose "Extract All" to see the contents.

Open Visual Studio Code: After extracting, open Visual Studio Code.

Load the settings: Inside Visual Studio Code, go to the settings menu. You can find it by clicking on the gear icon in the lower left corner.

Import the settings: Locate the "Settings" option, then choose "Open Settings (JSON)." Drag and drop the settings JSON file you extracted into this editor window.

Save your changes: Save the settings file in Visual Studio Code.
Congratulations! You now have the copilot-rules guidelines applied to your Visual Studio Code setup.
