I have introduced and/or am looking to change some of the language mapping rules on the Crowdin side. These control the filenames of the
language-LOCALE.xmlfiles which Crowdin generates.List of changes
Corrected locale for currently-live languages
Using
git mvand making the appropriate change inLangList.scala:av-DAtoav-RU(DA is unassigned, RU is Russian Federation - meaning users in Russia will now see this language alongside others on the list)la-LAtola-VA(Vatican City - where Latin has official status!)et,io,ia,jbo) to the ISO 3166 user-assignable localeAAwhich we already use for Klingon.Esperanto had the locale as
UY(Uruguay) for example, likely on account of the Montevideo resolution. However, this resolution in no way indicates formal support or widespread popular acceptance.Clearing unneded files
I also took the opportunity to clear some redundant files in lila for language mappings which we no longer use, in non-live languages. Many of these were changed in Crowdin years ago:
NG(was part of an experiment)ha-HG(corrected toha-NGif anyone submits translations in future)ce-CE(corrected toce-RUif anyone submits translations in future)ns-ZA(corrected tonso-ZAif anyone submits translations in future)tw-TW(no longer in use; listing Akan only for now, unless this entry is specifically requested by a translator)pa-PK(no longer in use as significantly misconfigured by Crowdin (text direction, etc); will arrange a custom language if a translator requests it)Additional work required in crowdin
If accepted, I will make a further issue on the mobile app and perform the needed changes on Crowdin. I have not set Crowdin to write to the new locales yet, apart from the languages we had no translations for. I will do so right away once this is merged. For reference, it is configured under Settings ➡️ Languages:
From my testing, we must use the "locale" placeholder and give the full code
language-LOCALEcode to Crowdin within this configuration screen.
