Hi! I made these pieces recently and I thought it would be fun to see them added, as they're a bit different from the other piece sets that are currently available.

I've also included a second green board whose colour palette aligns more closely with the pieces.

The pieces (and board) are free for personal and commercial use under CC0.

All SVGs have been minified via SVGOMG.

If anyone's interested, I also have a "plastic" variant with a truer black/white colour palette, which could be added in a separate PR (below).

Let me know if there's anything that should be changed. :)

Plastic variant (not included in this PR):

hi, thanks for submitting this piece set. It is indeed quite unique, which qualifies it for inclusion in the lichess piece set collection

here's some feedback from the team. Feel free to ignore what you already considered, but disagree with. You're the artist here.

  • the white piece outline contrast is a bit brutal
  • the inner colors have low contrast
  • it's a bit hard to distinguish the pieces from each other

In order to be included, the piece images must be squared and have the correct proportions. Here's an example.

I don't plan on including the board as it's not unique enough, I hope you don't mind.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback! Agreed that the contrast is a bit low, especially for the white ones. I'll see what I can do. The silhouette for the king/queen is also pretty similar now that I look at it.

The outline colour is a stylistic choice though, I'd prefer to keep it as-is if possible :)

I'm not sure what you mean about the correct proportions - the svgs all have a viewbox of 0 0 72 72, so perfectly square. I see that the xkcd pieces have a width and height associated as well - is this what you're referring to?

And no worries about the board!

also, just to be clear - would you like the plastic (black/white) variant as well, or just the wood (brown/light brown) variant (which is all that's currently included in this PR)?

👍 as I said you're the artist.

Indeed... for some reason github is showing me rectangular images:

I'll try the set now to see if it does work.

would you like the plastic (black/white) variant as well

to reduce choice paralysis we reduce the amount of available piece sets, and avoid having similar ones. So only one variant please.

Ok, made some updates - I've tried to keep changes as minor as possible. The most noticeable is the queen (below), which I've made a bit more flowery to differentiate it from the king. I'm personally of the opinion that everything else is readable enough - feel free to disagree though!

Other changes:

  • White knight, bishop and rook have very slightly more contrast.
  • Fixed a bug where seams between sections were visible as a thin black line (e.g. see the bottom of the original white rook).
