I guess these error messages occur when libcurl is enabled. You can disable it at build time (-Dlibcurl=false), a you'll get similar features as links. If it does not help, you can disable libevent or libev, whatever you have enabled.
ELinks has options manager, bound to key 'o' by default, I guess it can be somehow accessible on ios. In Options manager navigate to Protocols -> HTTP -> Use libcurl . I guess now it is 1, change it to 0, and visit some site.
Run first, elinks --version and show output. After latest changes by google, you must change User Agent and compile fresh elinks from git to be able to search there.

For google to work, what User-Agent should be used? What does the fresh compile need to have for google search, were there particular recent commits needed? Wow, there are like 700 commits in the last year since I pulled!
Does the javascript support need to be enabled for Google now? If so, which of the JS backends is recommended for the build?
I checked with "Mozilla Firefox" without quotes. And g smartprefix with http protocol, with https get some captcha.
Default in elinks is https:// for g. It need to be changed.
I'm afraid js is required for google. mozjs is least problematic from js backends.
For js to avoid crashes: ~/.config/elinks/allow.txt with urls which are ok. Prefixes of urls.
