This is a Note Taking Web App built with FastAPI, a modern, fast (high-performance) web framework for building APIs with Python, and MongoDB Atlas, a fully-managed cloud database service.
FastAPI was chosen for this project due to its many advantages:
-
High performance: FastAPI is built on top of Starlette, an asynchronous web framework, which allows for high performance and scalability. It leverages the power of asynchronous programming to handle a large number of concurrent requests efficiently.
-
Easy-to-use: FastAPI provides a simple and intuitive syntax for defining API endpoints using Python type hints, making it easy to develop robust and well-documented APIs.
-
Automatic API documentation: FastAPI generates interactive API documentation automatically using the OpenAPI (formerly Swagger) standard. This makes it easy to explore and test the API endpoints directly from the browser.
-
Data validation and serialization: FastAPI integrates seamlessly with Pydantic, a powerful data validation and serialization library. It allows you to define data models with type hints and validation rules, reducing the chances of runtime errors and improving the overall reliability of the application.
-
Authentication and authorization: FastAPI provides built-in support for various authentication mechanisms, including JWT (JSON Web Tokens). It allows you to secure your API endpoints and implement user authentication and authorization easily.
MongoDB Atlas was chosen as the database service for this project for the following reasons:
-
Fully managed service: MongoDB Atlas is a fully managed cloud database service provided by MongoDB. It takes care of all the operational aspects of the database, such as backups, monitoring, and scaling, allowing developers to focus on building their applications.
-
Flexible schema: MongoDB is a NoSQL document database that offers a flexible schema design. This flexibility allows for easy evolution of data structures and provides the ability to handle diverse and changing data requirements.
-
Scalability: MongoDB Atlas enables seamless horizontal scaling by providing automatic sharding and load balancing capabilities. This ensures that the Note Taking Web App can handle a growing number of users and data without sacrificing performance.
-
Cloud-based and globally distributed: MongoDB Atlas allows you to deploy your database clusters in multiple regions around the world, providing low-latency access to users from different geographic locations.
-
Rich querying and indexing: MongoDB offers a powerful query language and indexing capabilities that allow for efficient data retrieval and querying. This makes it suitable for applications with complex data access patterns, such as searching and filtering notes.
- Create, read, update, and delete notes.
- Store notes in a MongoDB Atlas database.
- RESTful API endpoints for managing notes.
- Data validation and serialization using Pydantic.
