Description

Users who save their API keys have no way to know when those keys might be approaching expiration or if they've been rotated on the provider side. Adding a periodic reminder system would help users maintain uninterrupted service.

Task

  1. Track the date when API keys were last saved in chrome.storage.local
  2. Add a configurable reminder interval (default: 30 days) in the options page
  3. Show a non-intrusive notification badge on the extension icon when keys are older than the threshold
  4. Display a reminder banner in the popup/dashboard suggesting key rotation
  5. Allow users to dismiss the reminder or snooze for 7 days

    Hi @shouri123, I would like to work on this security improvement for GSSoC.

    Plan:

    • Store a lastSavedAt timestamp whenever API keys are saved.
    • Add a configurable reminder interval in options, defaulting to 30 days.
    • Surface a lightweight badge/banner when keys exceed the threshold.
    • Add dismiss and 7-day snooze state in chrome.storage.local.
    • Keep the UI non-intrusive and run the extension quality checks before opening the PR.
