Calibre added a shelf view recently, I like it. I've been modifying covers to fit into the shelf view cleanly. For example:

I decided to add a view like this to biblio. Here is a screen shot of it in action:

The biblio version I have implemented has less options but attempts to emulate the default experience of Calibre when titles are turned off.
