ALICIA VIKANDER JOINS ENIGMA VARIATIONS

Some TV news for you today, starting with Alicia Vikander who has joined Aaron Taylor Johnson in ENIGMA VARIATIONS series at Netflix playing a woman he marries as he alternates between male and female partners. The series tells the story of Paul (Taylor-Johnson), a man remade by the lovers who ignite and undo him across ten transformative years. It’s an intimate yet sweeping portrait of masculinity, sexuality, and modern love, and in a world of endless choices, it asks the question: will we know when we’ve found the one?

 

DIANE LANE IN A HUNDRED PERCENT

Netflix has also cast Diane Lane in their half hour comedy series A HUNDRED PERCENT which already has Nick Kroll, Sam Richardson, Jason Mantzoukas, and Vanessa Bayer in the cast. She will portray Suzanne, a bestselling author, media mogul, and legend in the self-help world in the comedy about a group of friends who are stars in the world of wellness and self-optimization. Their books, podcasts, and morning routines might help us live our lives more perfectly, but away from the screens and mics, they are most definitely far from perfect.

Today I can share with you first posters and an exciting epic adventure trailer for DANIEL: THE FIERY FURNACE which should arrive into cinemas September 11th directed by the Kooman brothers! The film stars Mena Massoud (Aladdin) as the prophet Daniel and Elijah Alexander (The Chosen) as King Nebuchadnezzar. From the sun-baked streets of Jerusalem to the power centre of ancient Babylon, this is more than a movie. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest times, God still delivers, still speaks, and still raises up unlikely heroes who refuse to bow. 

THIS BRAND NEW MOVIE

 highlights Daniel's rise in Babylon and the legendary biblical account of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Rather than worship the ruthless king's golden image, these three men choose to be cast into a blazing furnace, setting the stage for a miraculous rescue. During the Jewish exile to Babylon, Daniel and his friends face trials as Babylon's armies conquer Jerusalem. Under King Nebuchadnezzar, they gain royal favor but make enemies. Back in 2022 I reported that Serbian star Milos Bikovic will lead historical movie THE BIRTH OF AN EMPIRE (Рождение империи) butthen about a year ago I told you that it will be Aleksandar Gorbatov who will play the lead role of Tzar Peter I at the time after the defeat in the Battle of Narva and before the victory in the Battle of Poltava. And now we have a new trailer from the film which is supposed to arrive to Russian cinemas October 29th 2026. In addition to Peter I, the film will also feature his courtiers Menshikov, Sheremetyev, Romodanovsky and Foreign Minister Golovin. Menshikov will actually be played by Milos Bikovich, Romodanovsky by Vitaly Khaev, Sheremetyev by Alexey Guskov. The female roles will be played by Yulia Peresild (Anna Mons) and Ksenia Utekhina (the future Catherine I). Andrei Kravchuk is directing.

Returning to his homeland after the Grand Embassy (Russian diplomatic mission to Western Europe from 9 March 1697 to 25 August 1698led by Peter the Great), Peter the Great stepped into a protracted war with Sweden for the access to the sea. Since romantasy is so popular among the female audiences, Starz has opted THE WOLF KING romantic fantasy saga by Lauren Palphreyman for a TV series adaptation, and that also includes the sequels The Night Prince, which was published in 2025, and The Wolf Queen, set for release this November. According to Variety, the story follows a princess named Aurora who is kidnapped by a werewolf and finds herself ensnared in a lethal love triangle and  is thrust into a war between humankind and her feral captors, forcing her to decide whether she’s a prize to be claimed or the master of her own destiny. Tanya Saracho has been set as the show runner and will also executive produce the series with Palphreyman.

The film centers on socialite Emily Fisher (Vikander) and her husband Max (Hollander) as they invite their equally wealthy friends to their new chateau in France for the night. Among the guests are a group of people who really can’t stand each other: Jim (Clafin) and his wife Holly (Keira Knightley), a struggling diversity consultant who continuously clashes with everyone until she gets a migraine, and Danny (Boyle) a quick-witted talent agent that name-drops his client list every chance he gets. As the evening begins to unravel and dark secrets are revealed, waitress Niamh (Erin Kellyman) finds herself right in the middle of their chaos.

Channel 5 has released first image from their new mystery series LAST RESORT which follows retired librarian Gail (Caroline Quentin) as she takes her sister, Joy (Niamh Cusack), to an idyllic holiday town in what is supposed to be a fun-filled bucket list trip. Sadly, Joy is suffering from the early stages of dementia, so the sisters are keen to get the most out of every moment they have left together, inviting longtime friends Dee (Tessa Peake-Jones) and Charlie (Jason Watkins) along for the ride. However, these best-laid plans quickly go awry when tragedy strikes the local community, with police being quick to declare an unfortunate accident – but the group are convinced it is murder and set out to prove it. As old crimes surface and dark patterns emerge, the group of friends finds that this seemingly idyllic resort town – with its beach walks, pub lunches, and good-natured bickering – hides something far more sinister. Together they must piece together one devastating mystery and track down a killer who has been hunting in this close-knit coastal community and beyond! John Hannah plays a cop.

BBC is, meanwhile, wishing you a Mary Christmas! Their popular costume drama THE OTHER BENNET SISTER is returning for a three-part special this Christmas. Ella Bruccoleri returns as Mary, with a host of other familiar faces from the series. The series offers a fresh take on one of Jane Austen’s most unassuming characters: Mary Bennet. Forced to step out of her sisters' shadows, Mary embarks on a journey of self-discovery – finding love, and most importantly herself, along the way. BritBox is airing it in USA.

I have two new Australian shows to present to you today, spylings, beginning with TREASURE & DIRT which arrives to their national broadcaster ABC July 19th with our dear Michael Dorman, whom you watched in Territory series, in the lead role. The story of the six part crime thriller is set in the scorched, dust choked opal mining town of Nulla, where the brutal beheading of local miner pulls big-city detective Ivan Lucic (Dorman) into a labyrinthine case with no easy answers. Assigned to him is ambitious rookie detective Nell Buchanan (Liv Hewson) who knows Nulla’s lawless, corrupt underbelly far better than he does. Together, they’re drawn into a strange, surreal underworld of secrets, greed, and old sins that won’t stay buried. Dean O'Gorman and Eamon Farren also star.

New six part series hits Stan next week

Arriving even sooner, next week actually - June 24th to Australian streamer Stan is six episode mystery crime drama THE KILLINGS AT PARRISH STATION. In 1987, detectives Georgia Cooke (Mia Wasikowska) and Michael Thorne (Xavier Samuel) are called to investigate the bizarre and brutal killings of four scientists at the remote Parrish Research Station. STAR TREK SERIES RETURNS THIS JULY

The fourth season begins next month

Back in April we had the first teaser for the fourth and the penultimate season of STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS and now we have a full trailer for the series that returns July 23rd with new episodes streaming weekly on Paramount Plus. The streamer has also released a poster for the new season featuring Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck and others who have already shot both final seasons earlier last winter. The final season will have only six episodes, while the fourth one will have the usual ten this summer. It is not impossible that the series might birth a spin off in which Paul Wesley takes over Enterprise as Captain Kirk after guest starring in this series. You can see him in one of the season four images today together with Dan Jeannotte who plays his brother Sam Kirk, a regular crew member of Enterprise. We also know that Thomas Jane will join the last season next year as Doctor Bones and Kai Murakami as Sulu.

the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise – led by Captain Christopher Pike – embark on a series of thrilling and emotional adventures across the stars. BBC has sent us first images from their new mini TV series THE HAIRDRESSER MYSTERIES with Sally Phillips leading the six part drama out this July. Infused with an upbeat 1970s spirit, the nostalgic crime drama sees her play a hairdresser, Lily Petal who opts out of the competitive city scene to buy a small village hairdressing salon at the top of a cobbled street. Charlotte Jordan plays Clary Coombs, Lily’s bright and analytical assistant and the Watson to her Shear-lock Holmes. Ben Castle-Gibb plays PC Adam Watson, an eager young copper in the local village who falls head-over-heels for salon assistant Clary. Sunetra Sarker plays Wincey Evans, the village’s local chit-chatter with a reputation as a known gossip. Clive Rowe plays Lonnie, the flamboyant manager of the local charity shop and Guy Henry plays Race Runard, the local village’s eccentric antiques dealer with a penchant for priceless teacup and saucer sets. An array of guest stars will also appear through the series including Wendi Peters who plays Gloria Crudd, another newcomer to the village hoping to make a fresh start with her ice cream parlour but soon finds her old life catching up with her. Everyone tells their hairdresser everything and soon she becomes the hub of her new village’s secrets and revelations. Using her own brand of uncannily developed hairdressing intuitive, empathy and understanding, Lily begins to solve the mysteries of the village.

I announced this one originally back in May last year, but now we have a trailer for romantic movie VOICEMAILS FOR ISABELLE as it is about to stream over at Netflix this Friday June 19th with our dear Nick Robinson in the lead role alongside Zoey Dutch. The film was both written and directed by Leah McKendrick. 

 

 THE STORY OF THE FILM 

follows Jill (Dutch) as she copes with her sister’s death by leaving her voicemails about her chaotic life in San Francisco. When the number is reassigned without her knowledge, an elusive Austin, Texas, real estate agent (Robinson) begins receiving the hilariously confessional messages. Gil Bellows, Nick Offerman, Lukas Gage also star in this romantic comedy.
