After Ransom Canyon which hits Netflix last month rather successfully, the streamer has set another family saga with THE WATERFRONT scheduled

The series starts June 19th on Netflix

for June 19th release and we have today the first trailer and poster for the eight episode family drama. Inspired by true events, it is as much about family dynamics as it is about the lengths people will go to when their legacy is on the line. 

 

THERE IS BLOOD IN THE WATER!

For decades, the Buckley family has ruled Havenport, North Carolina, dominating everything from the local fishing industry to the town’s restaurant scene. But their fishing empire has started to crumble as patriarch Harlan Buckley (Holt McCallany) recovers from two heart attacks, and his wife Belle (Maria Bello) and son Cane (Jake Weary) venture into the deep end to keep the family businesses afloat. As their attempts spiral out of control and into treacherous waters, Harlan steps back in to take command. Facing her own demons, Buckley daughter Bree (Melissa Benoist), an addict in recovery who’s lost custody of her son, finds herself entangled in a complicated relationship that could threaten the family’s future forever. If you grew up on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales such as The Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid or The Ugly Duckling, you will be happy to hear that Fox 2000 is planning a musical movie about him starring Ansel Elgort!

The musical fantasy will feature original music from Wicked's Stephen Schwartz and will, as 'Deadline' reports, follow Andersen who as a young man gets trapped in a world of his own imagination. As he searches for a way back to reality, he comes face-to-face with characters from his own fairy tales, nearly all of whom try to trap him in their world forever.The project is planned as a potential musical movie franchise. Life of Pi's David Magee is penning the script! The studio apparently paid a seven digit sum for the pitch.

I only have some television news for you today, people, starting with the one coming from NBC where Dave Annable from RED BAND SOCIETY and BROTHERS AND SISTERS is to lead the cast of HEART MATTERS opposite Melissa George! As 'Variety' reports this medical soap, inspired by the life experiences of Dr. Kathy Magliato, follows a talented female heart transplant surgeon, Alex Panttiere, played by Melissa George, who balances her work with the complications of her romantic and personal life. Dave Annable will play her boyfriend.

Meanwhile, over at ABC, one of our most anticipated of the new series pilots, the one for historical series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS, has found their first actor in Ray Winstone! If medical and historical shows aren't your choice, maybe some comedy for you? 'Deadline' reports that Jon Dore has been chosen as the main star of THE HALF OF IT new multi camera sitcom at CBS! The comedy revolves around Mike (Jon Dore), a newly divorced dad who revels in the fact that he now gets to keep half his stuff, which is more than he ever had when he was married. Mike is dealing with mixed feelings: half of him is the excited, upbeat single guy and the other half is the single dad who is in over his head with single parenting.
