Double Coins Weekend, and an infographic!

qHLNcLN.jpg

It's that time of the month again! Double Coins Weekend! All games give 2x coins to everyone!

Have you also noticed there have been more updates lately? We've made a small infographic that should give you some insight on the improvement that has been made since we started to grow our team and change our development strategy for 2015.

Now that we've delivered updates to some of the older games (there are two still waiting), our focus is on continuing to catch up on old promises and create new stuff!

You can click the image to view it in full resolution!

Hope you enjoy the DCW! Let us know in the comments what you thought of the infographic. We might share more stats in the future!

New Posts Rating System

The new like system is mostly rolled out (ItsHappening.gif) we've been watching closely over the last 6 hours, please remember this is an experimental feature... so things can change without notice.

We are extremely happy at how the vast majority seem to be liking it so far. We did a lot of research into this system and the potential effects so it's good to see that paying off. Since rollout over 98% of ratings given are "Positive", with only 2% "Neutral". We are continuing to optimistically watch the reception.

We have divided the ratings into 3 separate groups. With a bias to favor the Positive side.

Positive Ratings

These are catered to reflect not just that you like a post, but also to express yourself and show fellow forum members what you think in an emotive format.

Neutral Ratings
Disagree

Dislike
5bc4360f5e.png

These do not count against a user in anyway. The intention is to show that you politely disagree. Without having to reply to the post.

Negative Ratings
Rude
ee82c62b7a.png

To start with we are only going to have one negative type. This rating is supposed to enable our community to say “Hey this isn’t cool” without having to necessarily involve the mods. Read on for some information on how these are still limited. You must have at least 250 likes on your profile before you gain access to the Negative Ratings, and abuse of these ratings will result in them being removed from your account and in severe cases, further actions.

Negative ratings are currently still disabled for a day or two while we allow the community to become accustomed to the system before enabling this tool.

Special Ratings
Mod Emerald

Admin Diamond

Emeralds are given out by Moderators to posts that they find useful (such as good guides!) or otherwise great posts.

Admin Diamonds are only very rarely given by admins to posts and threads that are particularly outstanding.

Abuse Protection

VUuzpJ4.png

There are several systems in place to protect against abuse, these may change as we adjust the values but for now they are listed below.

  • You may only give 1 negative rating to a specific user per day.
  • You may only give a total of 3 negative ratings per day.
  • You may only give 3 neutral ratings to a specific user per day.
  • You may only give a total of 15 neutral ratings in a day.
  • You must have given out more positive ratings than negative in total.
  • You may only do "likes" on forum profiles. We felt that these should be a totally safe personal space.
Users may report other users for ratings abuse. Note however Mods will only act in the case of the abuse taking place over a number of days. (We can’t stop someone from disagreeing with you on a specific post, they are entitled to do that.)

We also have some private systems for protection and monitoring that we won't reveal ;-)

Warning System
Given the scale of the rating system changes, we have decided to postpone the warning overhaul to next week to avoid overloading you guys with information.

----------------

That's it from me, hope you enjoy the new rating system! I've been having a lot of fun with it so far... who will get the first Admin Diamond from @Hypixel himself? :O

2 New Admins, Player Behavior Outline & Upcoming Website Changes

Edit: The rating system is currently being worked on, a news post will follow when all features have been added in, be aware changes can happen rapidly.

Hello Everyone!

Some of you may have seen me around the past couple of weeks but for most of you this will be your first time hearing of me.

I am HadokenWarrior and I've joined the Hypixel Admin team to take on leadership of our Player Behavior and Justice programs. This post will largely discuss player behavior initiatives, but first lets introduce another new admin and show some previews for upcoming website features!

New Admin, PxlPanda & Website Preview

@PxlPanda has joined the team! He hails from Germany he will be focusing on developing our website (though he has a ton of developing experience inside minecraft too!) Rather than bore you all with text, why don’t we show you some images instead?

g9T4f00.png

Firstly, you’ll be able to associate your Minecraft account to your forum profile, this will give you not only some Network EXP among other things… it will also mean that your Rank (VIP/MVP/Helper Etc), Guild, Minecraft Avatar and Minecraft name will show up beside your posts.

q4GYtJP.png

You can click and view a full stats page for that member after their account is linked

7fsjxfX.png

You can even view a page showing achievement progress.

QPnurJF.png

We won’t provide a timeline of when the new website features will be, but it is near enough completion that we wanted to show you guys so you can share in our excitement! Bear in mind this is still work in progress, so the final result may differ greatly.

New Rating System - Coming Tomorrow

Tomorrow the website will be down for several hours during the early hours of the morning as we roll out the first of our new Player Behavior Initiatives. There will be a full post detailing all the changes, but I wanted to give you a short overview
y9ud6vA.png

The like system is being replaced with a rating system that will allow you to rate a post...
  • For positive reasons such as “Useful”, “Hype Train” or “Creative”,
  • Show your thoughts without having to respond with “Dislike, Agree, Disagree”
  • Apply negative tags with examples such as “Old, Abusive, Flaming”. Posts which receive a certain amount of negative tags will even be “soft hidden” like so
XES8Hry.png

The ability to give negative ratings is only available to members with over 250 ‘likes’(this number may change) and users who receive warnings may not give out negative ratings. Note that “Dislike” and “Disagree” are not negative ratings, but are instead neutral. It’s ok to disagree with an idea after all!

Don’t worry about your current likes! They will all be transferred into the new system and are integrated seamlessly.

Warning Overhaul - Coming Tomorrow

The warning system is being changed to be used more heavily before a forum ban. Warnings will also come with effects as well. Users who have active warnings will be prevented from creating new private conversations, unable to give ratings, unable to post on forum profiles among other things

Some more specifics on the Warning Overhaul and the New Ratings System will come with tomorrows news post when they are rolled out. Over the next few weeks we’ll be keeping a close eye on how this will affect the forums. We aim to allow our community a way to show what content they like, but also what isn’t acceptable through methods other than reporting.

Major changes to these two systems are one part of a much wider plan to empower our community, you can read more below for more details.

Gameban Notifications - Live Now

The Dev team has introduced a small and simple change. Many hackers are removed from game each day, but you rarely see this happen. Now when a user is removed from your game by a staff member, you’ll see this.

New Admin, HadokenWarrior & Player Behavior and Justice - Envisioned Changes

To explain a little more about me... my main duty is an overhaul and administrate to our current Justice system, Handle ban appeals, as well as assist in other areas.

What is player behavior and justice? This is an extremely wide question with many facets, however it boils down to one simple question.

How can we empower what is best within our community, while shielding our players from negative behaviours?

Lets look at some key objectives for 2015, note nothing has changed yet, and this will be a gradual process. All rules and systems currently still stand as they are.
  • Increased leniency towards smaller offenses, and a slightly more relaxed swear filter. Swearing in general is not widely seen as bad behavior, however the moment it’s directed at someone or a group that changes.
    • For us to expect our community to be more mature, we must allow them to behave more maturely, however many terms deemed racist or otherwise hurtful will still be taken extremely seriously.
  • Rewarding Positive Behavior with tangible benefits
  • Identify why bad behavior is happening, and deal with root causes or prevent it from going too far
    • We know that everyone has a bad day, the context outside of the game matters as much, if not sometimes more than the context ingame. We need to ensure that when one of our users is having his or her bad day, that we prevent the situation from spiraling out of control and affecting other users in a way that causes them to have a bad day too. An otherwise well behaved user might lose his cool, and our recourse for example might be as simple as a ban that lasts only a few hours that doesn’t even appear on your record.
  • Enable well behaved players, who only have relatively few mutes and bans on their record over a long space of time(everyone can have a bad day!) to redeem themselves and have them wiped from their record.
  • To be much stricter with Permabans, but also hand them out less frequently. If you are perma-banned under the new systems, there’s a very high chance you’ll never be unbanned.
    • We consider every permaban a failure to integrate the recipient into the community.
  • Ensuring our players see our justice system in action, without compromising the privacy of the case.
    • Its important that when you contribute to the community, that you see the result of your input, even if its as simple as “the case was reviewed”, however we have grander visions than that :)
  • Involve the community more on decision making on what is - and what is not acceptable behaviour.
    • This is secretly the most exciting point, our intent is to roll out tools and systems that will really involve our playerbase in shaping their own future when it comes to behavioral issues.
The common theme of all of this is that it is Player-Focused.

Our new approach separates player Behaviour into three areas. Public, Private and Cheating. Let’s show a small part of the approach for each of these areas quickly.

Public - We will be moderating the chat less strictly, but providing new tools for players such as /abuse if things start to get out of hand, and then react on that. We want the community to have the power to be able to stick up their hand and say “Hey you are going too far” while allowing playful banter and ribbing among friends. We know it can be frustrating to not be able to contact a helper or mod in time. So this /abuse system will start moving more towards its own webpage, where our staff can see the full context of the report and make decisions even in cases where they weren't around.

Private - We have no desire to get involved in things like guild chat, party chat or private messages. However we will provide commands such as a /ignore command which will be your first go-to in dealing with this. Our goal is to be only involved in these matters when it is an extreme case, and to let players, guildmasters and so on administrate their own areas.

Cheating - These systems will stay mostly as they are, with some refinements required and some additional tools for our Mods to help administer this.

As we progress in the next few months towards slowly changing our aspirations to our 2015 focus, we’ll be looking for feedback, previewing new features and most of all putting faith in you guys to step up and show yourselves to be the community that we already know you are. We want to put the focus more in your hands directly, and we’ll look to you for direction in whether things are too strict or too relaxed.

Remember, that this will take time, and while lately we’ve been avoiding (SoonTM) posts, it’s important that you all know where we are going before we start the journey.

There is one final new admin not mentioned in this post... but he will be revealed another day :).

I’m looking forward to working together with you guys on achieving these goals and making the Hypixel Community better than before, hope you are looking forward to the upcoming changes.

UHC now supports 1.7!

Dear Minecraft 1.7 hipsters <3 out there,

We have updated UHC (both Teams and Solo) to allow people to connect and play using their 1.7 clients. Keep in mind we still recommend you use Minecraft 1.8 to experience all the game has to offer, but now at least you won't have to swap just to play UHC if you still prefer 1.7.

Does the newly release anti-xray work on 1.7?
Yup! Our anti-xray applies no matter what version you use.

What about the World Border?
Since the 1.7 client doesn't have those fancy new World Borders seen in 1.8, 1.7 users will now see a wall of flames when they approach the border. Attempting to go outside it will damage them all the same. Due to the number of particles, users with slower computers may experience lag when they are near the border. If this happens, it’s recommended to switch to 1.8.

No gameplay mechanics have been changed to support 1.7 (nor are any adjusted just for 1.8 or 1.7 users.) No matter what version you choose to play, you'll still be playing the best UHC game there is.

Now, go play!
