Nick Gravenites, a powerhouse rock and blues singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer who worked with Janis Joplin, Big Brother and the Holding Company Elvin Bishop & Mike Bloomfield, founded The Electric Flag & wrote songs for Pure Prairie League, Tracy Nelson, Roy Buchanan, Howlin’ Wolf & James Cottonand other legends of the 1960s San Francisco music scene, died Wednesday. He was 85.
