Steven Jesse Bernstein - Prison (1992)
Dumbass ironic beats courtesy of Steve Fisk sometimes distract from Bernstein's readings, but his words often transcend that bullshit and by transcend I mean make their way into the listener's ears and then the heart. That sounds corny, but he is that good. His rhythms and nasal drones remind of his mentor Burroughs, but his observations are sometimes funny, his self-deprecation is honest, and he means well. Even when he's caustic, depressed, and paranoid, he's also so genuine that you sorta love him, making poems like Face all the more heartbreaking
