Coconut is fantastic accounting software with the bonus of an incredible support service. It's a simple, intuitive app combined with an easy to navigate website. I tried Hammock and PATma alongside this and opted for Coconut for it's simplicity and ease of use. I didn't need in depth analysis of my property business, I didn't want graphs, charts or statistics. I just need to do my accounts for MTD; and Coconut does that with ease. It's not been all plain sailing - I have made mistakes and struggled to understand some things but Jeremy and team have responded quickly to every panicked message giving calm, clear, expert advice, immediately solving my problem. I have survived MTD Beta testing 25/26 using Coconut and am now into year 2 of MTD, I couldn't have done it without the support of Jeremy and his team and I look forward to using Coconut for many years to come!!

I found it a bit confusing picking the correct package for me, and almost didn’t bother purely because of the way my questions were answered, it seemed as though the guy I was speaking to couldn’t really be bothered explaining it!

Happy with the communication and the ease of using it.

Helpful succinct

The fact there is no telephone contact is a big mistake. The categories for ingoings and outgoings are not comprehensive enough and confusing. The details on the bookkeeping side do not match those submitted to HMRC and they cannot be manually corrected.

Terrible software/platform. Doesnt pull all transactions from your banks. So you'll miss a bunch and because you did a lot from coconut itself, its so much more time consuming to find out what else you're missing. Horrible thing to use for MTD and probably for normal tax stuff too

Didn’t really answer the question I had. Directed me to HMRC but that didn’t answer it either, so I’ve just left it & crossed my fingers. Communicating with a human may have helped.

I've got most things worked out , but its really annoying that the texts for logging in don't come through, they did at first but now I have to look in email ,
Update , they are looking into a software issue...
OK they have fixed the text issue, so its looking up , the app is still a bit lacking but its easy enough to go into the web to do more stuff , got to conect to hmrc now , see how that goes ....🤞

Excellent simple to use app for MTD digital. Best bit is the absolutely fabulous support. I'm not tech savvy but Jeremy from the Coconut support team has been there at every hurdle swiftly offering clear, concise solutions in a calm and friendly manner.

I got Coconut early to prevent last minute stress when it came to submitting my first self assessment using this system. I used to write up my own books, from a self employment practice and two rentals. A book for each. Simple. My figures are 100% accurate. Now, with this system, I have spent literally months trying to reconcile my correct figures with what they say the figures should be. It’s not easy to understand or to explain.
The three separate income streams A +B+C should equal. Taking the figures from Coconut let’s say -£1,000 plus £2000, plus £3000, the answer should surely be £6000. That’s their figures. But no, when you add up the income steams using their figures, and head over to the taxes pages, to confirm income ( in this example) £6000, no it’s not. It’s £6770. The AI bot said to make a manual adjustment to correct it. Having spent months uploading every single thing, and getting the hang of this, I shouldn’t have to do a manual adjustment to get this software to add up correctly. I can’t trust it. It has many flaws. I am going to have to leave and start again with Xero.

BTW, you never speak to anyone. The email messages I have received are unfriendly and largely unhelpful. It takes days for them to respond- by which time I’ve moved on, I’m not still trying to reconcile this or that. Then you get a surly one liner, or a link to some non relevant video.

The AI bot is better than the human, but repeats instructions rather than seeing slight differences in requests for help. I’ve had enough. I’ll submit this return and start again with Xero. Waste of time, months and months of time, and money.

After years of struggling with QuickBooks as a self employed sole trader, I can confidently say that it was a frustrating experience. The platform felt overly complicated and cluttered, making it overwhelming to navigate, especially after they changed the layout. Just the thought of using it would cause me stress and cause me to have anger issues. However, discovering Coconut has been a game changer. Its simplicity and user friendly design make managing my finances a breeze for MTD, especially on the go with my phone. Transitioning from QuickBooks felt like moving from piloting a spaceship to now flying a single seater microlight airplane—much more enjoyable and manageable. The difference between the two is staggering!

The app is so easy to use and quick , a great experience , I would recommend this app to anybody , kind regards Paul

Coconut has a friendly vibe and I find the interface understandable and engaging. My main bank account is not yet able to link to my Coconut platform, however I know Coconut are working on this and meantime the transactions can be entered by me. A standout feature is my various income streams can all be accommodated within one single subscription - there are other MTD providers who don’t do this.
