Since 2000, despite rising globalization, US elections have not had a significant impact on Indian stock markets historically. Market performance depends on various macroeconomic factors — for example, in 2008, the Nifty 50 fell on the day Barack Obama was elected and continued to fall throughout the year. 2008 was also the year when the 2008 financial crisis was looming large on economies around the world. In 2016, after Donald Trump’s presidential victory, Indian markets remained in the red, following global trends, due to Chinese stock market turbulence, a fall in petroleum prices, the Greek debt default in June 2015, and the impact of Brexit. While some select sectors may see more opportunities due to the policies of different political parties, overall, markets are now, more than ever, dependent on global economic cues for their performance. Do you expect Indian markets to bounce back in November?
