Update on Antique Stars

It happened!  The quilt has a new home.
Sister Jean is now the owner of the quilt I made from her antique stars.
She is very pleased and happy to have received it.

I am pleased and proud to have made it.
Sometimes you just know in your heart there are things you need to do.
This for me, was one of them.

The beach on a cloudy day.

Same spot on a sunny day.

While we were at the Siena Retreat Center in Racine, the wildflowers were out in full bloom.
Once again we had a great 4 days sewing and being with friends.
More to come.

Antique Stars

Remember in October when I was at the quilt retreat
in Racine, one of the sisters brought these star blocks to our sewing area?
She had been given them, but did not know what to do with them.

Knowing we were quilters, she thought we would know what to do with them.
No one could really decide what to do with them, have them appraised, and sell them. or
make something with them.
Well I decided I would work with them, and see what I could do.
This is what I did!
I found some antique muslin at a quilt show in October that was only 36 inches wide.
I had to figure which way I would get the best use of the fabric, as those stars are large.
I then, hand appliqued them each to a square, squared them all up, and sewed them together.
This turned out to be a pretty big quilt.
I am so proud of how well it all came together.

My friend and longarm quilter, Wendy Yates did the beautiful quilting.
I was lucky in that the stars were all hand-pieced and laid flat.
She made sure that each star was quilted, and would be stable.
I am in awe with how beautiful the quilt turned out.

Because the stars were definitely old, I wanted to no have a flowery back.
I went to my plaid stash and pulled out what I had to make the backing.
The red plaid is what I used for the binding.

This weekend there is our Spring Retreat in Racine, and the quilt is going up there with me.
I am going to give it back to sister that had the stars.
I hope she will like what I did.

I will let you know what happens.
Have a great weekend.

We are heading home

Time to be starting home.
Andy few home the day before as he had to work that evening.
We had lunch with Ron's mother to celebrate her upcoming 91st birthday.
We did make a couple of stops.

They called their row, "Water, Water Everywhere".
This was the first shop just over the line in Pennsylvania, Calico Patch Quilt Shop.
They are in North East, PA.
On our way out we had made a stop in Erie, and picked up this row at TaDaQuilting Studio
H    TWO   OH

Here is "Go take a walk on the beach" from Super Stitch, also in North East, PA.
They had a special ruler to make the steps.

After another night in Cleveland, Ohio, we had decided to make a stop in Shipshewana, Indiana.
We wanted a chicken dinner at the Das Dutchman in Middlebury.
We stopped at The Cotton Corner in Shipshewana to pick up their row.
They had a winner already.

The bottom row is this years, "Wana Waves"
The one on the top "Hoosier Harvest: was last years row.  They still had patterns left for sale.

This area has a lot of Amish residents. Love to see their modes of transportation.

Pumkinvine Quilting, in Middlebury has a neat row.  It is "Krider Waterwheel Cottage"
It is after a historic building in the area.

They have had a winner as well.

Here is my last one, well at least from Indiana.
"Splash Time!" is from The Quilt Shop at the Essenhaus shops in Middlebury.

At the Das Dutchman, was this cute quilt.  Love the gingham fabric for the border sets it off.

How about the yo yo's on this table runner?

At the Das Dutchman restaurant they have this area showing off several antiques and quilts.

Love those baskets.

This Loan Star is so pretty. The combination of blue and yellow is fresh looking.

Well that about does it for the time being.
Time to settle in for a while, and get some more sewing done.
I still have pictures of more quilts to share that I have finished.
I have done a lot of embroidery that needs to be made into  purses of set as pictures.  I am still considering what to make them into. Still have a lot of rows to now work on.
A couple of retreats will be coming up soon. Who knows what else I will get done.
I have to say it feels pretty good to be able to say I have completed some of those projects that have been on that
UFO list.  There are at least a dozen more to work on.  Then there are any little things that come along that will be fun to work on.
Got to keep busy.
Hope you are having a wonderful summer.

Birthday Lunch and Thursday Sew

On Wednesday to celebrate Andy's birthday, he suggested a restaurant in Schaumburg, Texas de Brazil.  Oh my, I fell in love!  It is a buffet type luncheon. You go to the "salad bar", which included salads, cheeses, soup, all with a Brazilian flavor.  After the salad bar, they give you a clean plate, and serve fried bananas to cleanse the palate.  Oh so good.

The meat is served by men who comes to your table with skewers of different kinds of meat, and chicken.  The sirloin was to die for.  You have a coaster that you turn one side up for, no thank you, and then turn over, and it means, yest stop here.  Everything was so good. It is not a place where you are a picky eater, or conserving the pocketbook.

Andy was so enjoying his birthday lunch.  I said I want to go there for my next birthday.
Thursday, Jan shared with us a quilt she purchased at the International Quilt Festival in June.  The fun thing about this quilt, is I had seen it Thursday night and thought it was gorgeous.  It was so pretty.  On Friday morning, when I went past the booth that had been displaying the quilt, it was gone. I had just hoped it went to a good home. Boy was I surprised when I got to see the quilt in person,  Jan had it.

I love it.

Just look at the detail.  The quilting is beautiful.

The boarders.

Hope everyone is having a great day. Looks like another hot one is on it's way.  We are ready for some rain and lower temperatures.

Have a sew, sew day.
