Nice effort, was good for a few minutes of fun.
One complaint I have is it doesn't drop then items exactly where you click, making aiming frustrating. And sometimes when I drop stuff, they just bounce or roll off for no particular reason.
I like this kind of game, but I found this one a little bit difficult and inconsistent
Would be cool if there were some kind of powerups or limited use abilities to freeze your stack or make an item instantly stick when it touches stuff
Thanks for the feedback, I’m using the physics engine so maybe there’s some inconsistencies, but I get it that I should have made some sort of guide where the items will land… Thanks for the feedback :D
I liked the game!
A pretty simple and nice game to try.
It just doesn't fit completely into the theme for me though, and that's because the only thing the player can do is stacking things up and the risk is that they might lose, but that's literally any game that someone could play and lose in the process of scoring higher points in it.
But overall, the mechanic of the game was very fun and I enjoyed it!
Definitely agree with you on that point, but I’ve seen a lot of games involving gambling and I tried to think of something unique :D
Evil Tetris. Nuff said. I kinda like how you can try to play it safe only to lose even more miserably than if you just straight up stacked everything in one column.
That’s the idea of “risk it for the biscuit”
It was a great game. I love small games with creative ideas. It was great that each of the treats had its own unique characteristics and you had to know this to arrange them. It was great. But as a tip, it would have been better to have a specific order so that the round biscuits didn’t come first because it’s very difficult to build a tower on a circle. Overall, I enjoyed it.
I get your point, maybe adding them into variation later would make the game even better ;)
As a Tetris lover I simply had to try this!
Would be great to have an outline of where the item would fall, as I found out too late that the food fell where my cursor was, rather than where the item was
That’s actually a nice idea… I will try my best to implement it
Wow... this is the first time I've seen a game made by G Develop. Amazing! The concept is really good, especially with the login and score submission system. Keep up the good work! :D
I appreciate the feedback, and honestly that took me the longest to figure out…
Short and sweet. Good for a few minutes of trying to better your score. Oddly enough, I got my best score on the first play through... Didn't encounter any bugs. Simple and intuitive gameplay. Graphics and sound matched the genre. Good job!
I’m glad you had fun trying to perfect your score :P
I played on my phone, liked the leaderboard - nice entry 👍
Thanks for checking the game out on mobile :D
Quick and fun arcade game. I love simple games like this. One bug I noticed, although really subtle, messes up the accuracy of the placement of sweets. Whenever you let go of left click, the sweet shifts a bit to the right, dropping it where you didn't intend. Regardless of that, this was a fun game. Great work!
It isn’t really a bug as otherwise you could just place the sweets in a perfectly straight line :|
Nice game, easy to learn but hard to master!
It reminds me Tricky Towers but with sweets
Even though visuals and sounds aren't yours, you nailed it by choosing them. They're perfect, so well done!
The only thing that bothers me a little is that the collision boxes aren't perfect.
But maybe it's something of the engine. Speaking about it would you reccomend Gdevelop? Because I'm an Unreal Engine user so I'm looking for a simple engine to master for simple 2D games like yours.
Anyway big up and... if you try mine let me know what you think!
Custom collision masks are definitely on the engine, even though, the squares and circles exist, setting them up was really hard as the shapes must be convex
There were a few tweaks to the assets, but nothing too crazy :P I think GDevelop is perfect for that exact simplistic 2D games, it’s open source and super beginner friendly, although it takes some time to get used to, everything is built-into the engine - Piskel for pixel art and, and jsfxr for simple 8-bit sounds… You can get started to prototyping lots of ideas really fast, I think a whole platformer is possible without writing a single “line of code” -> Which is kinda like Scratch, if you’d like to get technical there’s also an option for JavaScript… And they have also implemented 3D environments, but I haven’t really checked that out
Thank you for the detailed answer!
Took a few losses to figure out what the fail state was, but besides that, does exactly what it sets out to do. Fun entry!
Thanks for the feedback, I was honestly going to center the camera on falling objects at first, but decided that a whole tower would look nicer :)
Quite a fun game though a bit short, managed to get a somewhat good score in the end :P.
Honestly I spent most of the time figuring out how to set up a leaderboard properly… But I’m glad you found the game fun, even though it is a bit short :P
Really fun! I liked figuring out the special qualities each piece had, and trying to not knock them over until you got the piece you needed. High score of 84 ^^
Thanks for sharing your opinion on the game :) I’ll be sure to check out yours as well
Nice game. It's a simple concept, but it really makes you want to keep playing to beat your high score.
Thanks for playing :D
Nice game, Its a cool idea and very fun to play! I like the music too. The only complaint I would have is that some of the hitboxes are too big, so when I would try to place a dessert beside another one, it sometimes would hit the edge of the other dessert and fall off. But I still really enjoyed the game and I liked the art too. Well done :)
Glad to hear that you’ve found the game enjoyable despite the collisions being slightly too big
Nice work, and very nice addition with the leaderboard
Thanks :)
Fun game with easy to learn and hard to master mechanics! The fast replayability makes it also very addictive.
It was also great that although the tower was about to fall I could save it by throwing fast other items on the right spot.
Quick Suggestions:
Congrats!
I could have definitely made some objects spawn with gum… Although the 2nd idea sounds great it was tested out and it came out slightly annoying :)
Fun little game, those cookies were devious by rolling off every time ahha
I got pretty high by using the chocolate as much as possible, instead of building on the little foods. Fun! Good job!
Would you like to try my game also? :)
Interesting strategy :D And I’m glad you had fun
There is something addicting about this game. It's fun to find out how different sweets behave and interact with each other. It would be good to have some info about what sweets will fall down next. Overall, very good game.
That’s a pretty common suggestion kinda like Tetris, and I can’t believe I haven’t thought about it :O
I liked the classic "pile-em high" type theme here. I think the music was a bit too pop and 'pushy' for want of a better phrase and something that could alter and change as the tower gets higher would be cool. Maybe it does that but my tower didn't get high enough. :P
There was a wee glitch for me that sometimes happened where the top of my tower would be below the viewport and I wasn't sure where to drop my next item... maybe that was on purpose for further risk?
I saw some particle effects when the objects landed, but wanted more and more of a reward/success message. Bbut I very much know the element of time constraints in a game jam... I wanted to do loads more too!
Definitelly had some messages like SWEET and COOL in mind, but didn’t have time to polish that up :) You can drag the screen down to see where you want your next pieces to land, but I haven’t figured out how to do so while dragging a cookie…
Gotcha - aye... I think it is a solid game jam submission though and like what you managed to get done. I commented elsewhere that I think the hard hard candy stripe height target was maybe too bold as well and maybe with more of a transparent 'chalked' line type effect would be cool. Seeing your previous highest pointed too to remind the player that they got higher before and then as they approach it the tension can grow... Keep reminding them of their PB...
I was thinking another cool design could be giving the player choice of the next elements so they have a bit more control over the tower as it is built. Possibly then with a warning that no choice is coming in X turns and then it is going to be Y... May allow the player to be more strategic.
Keep coding and building games... Congrats again on the submission!
Definitelly a missed opportunity on that part of reminding the player of their best score :O
I see the best score on the left, but it is just a number. All good...
