Nice game, well done!
Hello! Your game has a super interesting concept, and I really enjoyed exploring the idea. I did feel that the movement was a bit rigid for a platformer, and I wasn’t entirely sure how the grappling was meant to work - sometimes it seemed to hang in the air, and other times it shot out very wide. Climbing the rope also felt a little slow. It’s possible I didn’t fully understand the intended mechanics, but for me the pacing felt a bit too slow and somewhat unpredictable. With a bit more polish, though, I think this game could become really amazing!
This is a great concept, but the grappling is really slow when reeling it in or out and I had a hard time knowing when to launch the hook. That is my main and really only gripe though. Speed up the reeling and give an indicator for how fast the hook will launch and my problems with the game are solved! The visuals are great!
Cool concept! Don't think I've played a 2d climbing game with grappling mechanics like this before. There seemed to be a lot of work put into making the grappling mechanic and it turned out great, but some other more basic platform mechanics were a bit overlooked. Since its a platformer at the end of the day, maybe some more investment in improving the basic movement would help. Also, there seemed to be a bug affecting the player's jump, maybe the hook was colliding with things even when its not shot out?
Great game! I can really see the grappling hook turning into something super fun with a bit of polish. I personally had some trouble figuring out how to control it—it felt inconsistent at times. Sometimes the grappling hook wouldn’t go very far at all, and other times it would shoot pretty far, which made moving around the map tricky. Also, the climbing feels a bit too slow. At first, I even thought the W/S controls for climbing/descending the rope weren’t working because it moved so gradually. If you tweak these things and refine the mechanic, I think this could turn into a really enjoyable game!
I like the added spin concept with the grapple. The grapple also felt like it could really take you anywhere you wanted. the visuals were nice as well (simple and effective). This was a unique platformer. Great Job!
Fun concept! But the grappling hook most of the time got stuck to the air or floor, and sometimes it launched at the very top of the map even if I didn't want it to (a limited range for the grappling hook can be applied), overall nice idea but needs tuning :)
Hook didnt feel responsive, couldnt throw as i wanted most of the time also got stuck to air or writing. Since map is huge, hook wind/unwind speed being higher would feel better, also the animation frames of chars volume differ a lot making char look unstable. Backround is beautiful and map generally has a nice aesthetic vibe with the music. just the cherry tree(tree/bush with red fruits) having outline made it feel out of place since nothing else had outlines.
I really liked the concept tho if you intend to work on the hook again id love to play it even after jam. Good luck on your next jam!
thanks for the suggestions! I will try to improve it so it’s better to play!
Enjoyed the game a fair bit.
Managed to thread the needle and get the hook pretty much at the end of the level fairly early on (by accident) and spent a few mins just climbing the rope xD
Only real criticism from me is that I feel like the climbing is a little too slow for my preference. Other than that though, really good game
I really like the idea of this game. It is kind of like the game "Getting Over It" or "Jump King" but with a grapple hook - and that sounds awesome.
But as others have mentioned, it is quite buggy. Half the times you shoot the rope, it seems to get stuck in yourself. I also experienced I got launched across the map when I retracted the hook, ultimately falling to my death. I understand that the game should be difficult, but the difficulty should feel fair, and not be because of random bugs.
The level design looks good. The tutorial bit in the beginning was good. I see a lot of potential here.
sorry man, in my testing I didn’t run into many bugs. I meant for it to feel difficult from the actual gameplay
I really like the concept of the grappling hook, however there were a few problems.
The grappling hook was really buggy and I couldn't play the game as intended due to this. Sometimes it would barely move, sometimes it would hook on the air, and sometimes it would fly to the stratosphere and hook on the ceiling. These can definitely be fixed, and I'm so sorry that you couldn't fix these issues due to time constraints.
The environment is very good, and the graphics are nice. The music is also quite nice too, good job!
Overall, a game that suffers from bugs on its core mechanic. The polishing is done really well though, good job!
The mechanic is fun and the visuals have a vibe, goodjob!
I do like the idea of using the grappling hook to get up to places you couldn't physically do alone and also having to make sure to not get fall damage. The hook might be a bit buggy, but hopefully you'll get more time to work on it after this jam ends!
I really enjoyed your grappling hook mechanic! There has to be some restrictions though, right now the range is too large; I can literally hook to the level ceiling (or maybe it was all intended?!). Had a lot of fun with your game, good job!
I like the mechanics here - they add a lot more challenge to how grappling hooks normally work in games and I think that gives room for more depth to how you approach climbing. I did have some trouble getting the grappling hook to launch consistently from the player and not just land at my feet. I think that may have been from me misunderstanding how to swing it properly regardless, I think it would help the player understand their mistake by having a gauge or something show how much power they had accumulated for the swing. Still a really cool submission!
Cool game! I managed to make it pretty far. The grappling hook mechanics are quite good, but its pretty hard to throw correctly, and occasionally it'll shoot out super far away. Unity physics bugs are always pesky... Great work!
Fun game! I really enjoyed the idea conceptually, but I feel that the time it takes to pull yourself up from the rope makes the game a bit less enjoyable. Personally, I would recommend giving the player more control over the length of the rope via the use of the scroll wheel (though you may need to balance this mechanic or players will be able to launch themselves by drawing the rope in quickly). That said, I was not able to make it to the cookie due to falling on the third section. Nevertheless, great game!
Hey bro! Pretty fun to just run arround, nice game!
using the grappling hook thing was very fun, great game
Neat idea! I like the concept of swinging and tossing a grappling hook, but unfortunately for me it was very unresponsive and I couldn't get past the drop-off.
i did mention it is difficult so i hope it didnt affect your rating, thanks for the feedback, i will try to fix the grappling hook after the jam
It didn't really affect the rating all that much. I definitely got the whole difficulty bit (the Foddian game vibes were on-point!) It was more down to the grappling hook not moving when I had tossed it, and it happened quite a bit. Oh, and the background pixel art is really cool (forgot to mention that)!
