As always, with thanks to my Pinterest feed.  :-)

(Not) Wordless Wednesday

Image
I heard a ruckus outside last Friday morning, January 21st, around 10:45 AM. Not unusual, as the young father in one of the rental units across the street has some sort of "building" business and has turned the garage into a workshop. (I'm sure this is against condo bylaws, but hey, in our particular complex, that doesn't matter. Nor does safety.) I got up to look out the front bedroom window and saw this: If you enlarge the pic you will see four (!) of our city's police officers on site. Four! I have no idea what they were looking for (drugs? stolen merchandise?), and I have no idea if they found it. They did tear part of the makeshift garage door down, and things remained that way until sometime today when I noticed that the real garage door has been put back on. There has been no sign of the young family since Friday, and their van has been gone since then as well. In all the years that the unit has been rented out, not once-- not once !--have the tenants been ...

Winter Wallop

Image
We had our first major storm of the winter season yesterday, snow falling so quickly that 20 cm (8 in) of the 38 cm (15 in) we had by evening news time had come in just four hours. Blizzard warnings abounded. Even so, other areas got much more; I heard this morning that Oshawa got 55 cm of snow yesterday. That's a LOT of snow to have to clear in a large urban centre. Even here it will take the city's plows (road and sidewalk) quite some time to clean up the mess. (And frankly, they do a really poor job of it anyway, particularly the sidewalks.) I know this is eastern Canada, but it's extremely rare to have that much snow in a single day! The good thing about working from home was that there was no need to commute to work (just as well, since most buses/routes were cancelled till evening). The bad thing about working from home was that there was no snow day, we all could work anyway.  :-P I'm lucky to have a very short driveway, but whoever the property management compan...

Friday Funnies

Recently a blogger I've followed for a long time over at " My life, my world " started posting a "Friday Funny," and I like that so much I thought I'd try doing it again too. Well, at least for this week. Ha. It did mean I had to log into Pinterest and find something cute/funny that appeals to me, and that's not a bad thing. We need more smiles in the world right now! :-) I hope everyone finds something to smile about today. Take care and keep well. If you're in an area of extreme cold warnings, as I am, bundle up and stay cosy! Peace.

Wordless (Not) Wednesday with Derry

Image
I took Derry to our regular vet on Monday January 10th, not having been satisfied with the exam and subsequent conversation with the new, young vet he'd seen on December 31st. Snapshot from Jan 6, playing with his feathered stick, something he hasn't done in many months. Our regular vet gave his eyes a thorough check, including the Schirmer tear test, which the previous vet had not done. There was no sign of an ulcer, no sign of glaucoma, but his eye was low on tear production (near the low end of normal), which apparently can be caused by a Herpes virus flare-up. I was given steroid eye ointment (I opted for ointment this time over drops) and am doing my best to get some meds onto the inside part of the lower eyelid every day. It's hit and miss, a lot ends up on the fur below his eye, but I hope that at least some is getting where it's supposed to. Note that the December 31st vet didn't think steroid eye meds were appropriate; she had sent us home with antibacteria...
