Jorien "Sheever" Heijden (born April 26, 1985) is a Dutch Host. She has been a consistent presence in Dota 2's top events, notably The International, the Dota Major Championships, and DreamLeague. She began her career in esports in 2012, working as a commentator, attending her first International that year.
In May 2017, Sheever revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, continuing to attend events while undergoing treatment. She has been cancer free since December 2019, an video, devoted to her story, was showcased during The International 2018.
Over time, she has transitioned into a full-time host, and is Dota 2's most well-known English-speaking host. Her work as a host has been recognised outside of Dota 2, with multiple nominations esports host of the year in the Esports Awards and The Game Awards.
Biography
[edit]Jorien van der Heijden grew up as the third child in a village in the Netherlands. She liked games from a young age, being introduced to Warcraft III and the world of Battle.net by her sister. She was a big fan of Tower Defense, and later also DotA. Sheever became serious about gaming with World of Warcraft, raiding with hardcore raiding guild 'Ascendence' for about 4 years. It was not long after quitting World of Warcraft in 2011 that she received a Dota 2 beta key. She started streaming Dota 2 on Owned.tv in early December 2011, switching to Twitch.tv in March 2012.
Sheever entered the casting world when she was asked to help out with an amateur Dota 2 tournament. She was hired as a caster at GosuGamers in April 2012, remaining with them until January 2013 when they were disbanded. Since then Sheever has been an increasingly well-known independent freelance caster, host, panelist and interviewer for Dota 2, appearing in many well-known events such as The International, Starladder, DreamLeague, and ESL.[1]
In May 2017, Sheever announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. [2] She continued attending events whilst undergoing radiation and chemotherapy and has been cancer-free since December 6, 2019.[3]

- Her nickname, which is also her old World of Warcraft nickname, is derived from a Robin Hobb book, containing a sea serpent called "Shreever".[5]
