Biography

[edit]

Prior to working in esports, Nomad studied radio production for three years. He began playing Dota 2 in 2012[1] with a group of friends. One of the first[note 1] matches he recalled playing was Io, which was a complete disaster, but his next patch, on Death Prophet, went much better. He and his group of friends played plenty of Dota 2 together, and they decided to compete in several amateur tournaments in the United Kingdom, including a tournament called Absolute Bedlam. The tournament was frequently on the lookout for commentators, and Nomad decided to give it a try, giving him his first taste of commentary.[2]

When he began casting, he went by the nickname Peanut Almighty, before realising he was unlikely to be hired with such a strange name, so he changed it to Nomad. This name was a reference to the nomadic lifestyle, particularly around the aspects of travelling and storytelling.[2]

In his early casting career, he balanced out commentary with helping his father renovate houses. He would wake up at around 2am, cast South American Dota 2 for eight hours, help his father for eight hours, then sleep and repeat. His first break was with joinDOTA League S11, where he volunteered to cast series that none of the other casters wanted to do. He followed this pattern with Beyond the Summit, taking regions that were of lesser interest, usually South America and a bit of Southeast Asia. His big break was with EPICENTER, where he was involved with the European qualifiers, and was told that the best would be invited to the Major proper. Nomad was successful, alongside casting partner MoFarah. Nomad later recalled how daunting, but rewarding, the event was.[2]

He was given the opportunity to work as a host at a WePlay event, which he did well at, and later attended The International 2019 in Shanghai, as a reporter. In 2021, PGL hired him as a host for the Dota Pro Circuit, for Southeast Asia, as well as for Perfect World in China, a role he reprised throughout the next season of the Dota Pro Circuit. He made his debut at The International in 2022, as a remote caster, and was invited to The International 2024, as an in-person interviewer.[2]

Nomad is also a frequent commentator at national Dota 2 events, such as the Commonwealth Esports Championships, Global Esports Games, and IESF World Esports Championship. He is also an avid photographer.[2]
