On the whole - General Hospital is a great episode, and easily the smartest of all the Blackadders, as well as being one of the funniest. A must-see. 10/10
This is another classic episode with a very funny plot, brilliant dialogue and wonderful performances.
The plot is quite clever considering its a 30 minute sit-com episode with a fair bit of intrigue surrounding the identity of the spy. It does not in anyway detract away from the main purpose, which is the comedy, but it gives it an extra dimension of entertainment.
This is another fine example of the Curtis and Elton dialogue at its best, with Blackadder firing razor sharp punchlines like a machine gun turret. His biggest victim in this episode is Captain Darling in a number of hilarious exchanges. We also get some of the best sight gags in the series.
All performances are excellent as ever with every member of the regular cast on perfect form. Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry and Tim McInnerny have the best material. Miranda Richardson has a memorable guest role as Nurse Mary Fletcher-Brown. Bill Wallis has a great cameo as a notable patient in the hospital.
Definitely one of Blackadder's bet ever episodes, absolutely magical from start to finish.
It almost plays out like one of those romances from the 1950's, it has that kind of sentimental romantic vibe, however it's Blackadder, so it's loaded with wit, humour, and a lot of physical humour.
Miranda Richardson, be still my beating heart, is sublime throughout, magically funny, with an incredible sense of timing. Loved the scenes of her nursing George, side splitting.
I can't believe how quickly this series has rolled by, only one to go, and I must ready myself for it, having only seen it once.
This, was perfect, 10/10.

- TriviaCaptain Darling vehemently denies being a spy and says he is "as British as Queen Victoria", to which Blackadder sarcastically replies "So your father is German, you're half-German and you married a German!" In 1917 when the show is set, King George V (Queen Victoria's grandson), whose house was directly descended from German nobility, changed the royal house name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor in an effort to appease British nationalist feelings.
- GoofsBlackadder tells Captain Darling that there are really four verses to "God Save the King". In fact there are actually six verses. However the last verse, an anti-Scottish sentiment, is almost never sung.
- Quotes
Captain Blackadder: I spy with my bored little eye something beginning with "T".
Private Baldrick: Breakfast.
Captain Blackadder: What?
Private Baldrick: My breakfast always begins with tea. Then I have a little sausage, then a egg with some little soldiers.
Captain Blackadder: Baldrick, when I said it begins with "T", I was talking about a letter.
Private Baldrick: Nah - it never begins with a letter. The postman don't come till 10.30.
Captain Blackadder: I can't go on with this. George, take over.
Lieutenant George: All right, sir. Umm... I spy with my little eye something beginning with "R"
Private Baldrick: Army.
Captain Blackadder: For God's sake, Baldrick. Army starts with an "A". He's looking for something that starts with an "R". Rrrrrrr.
Private Baldrick: Motorbike
Captain Blackadder: What?
Private Baldrick: Well, a motorbike starts with an rrrrm rrrrm rrrrm.
Captain Blackadder: Right, right, right. My turn again. What begins with "Come here" and ends in "Ow"?
Private Baldrick: I don't know.
Captain Blackadder: Come here.
Private Baldrick: [Blackadder punches Baldrick in the face] Ow!
