    Another Excellent Episode

My DVD is not showing these episodes in the order listed here, so for me, this was the third excellent episode in a row.

Plot In A Paragraph: After taking part in a identity parade at the local police station where Spudgun is being accused of stealing his mother Mrs. Potato's handbag, Richie and Eddie heads down to the Lamb and Flag pub where Richie gets into a argument with a one-legged Falklands war veteran, by pretending he also fought in the Falklands war and Richie and Eddie places a bet on a horse Sad Ken in a horse-race and gets the money from antiques dealer Ted in exchange for the one-legged Falklands war veteran's false leg. Obviously the veteran knows nothing of this, as Richie and Eddie took it when he was passed out drunk.

In a side note Julia Sawalha looks great in her role as Veronica Head, the new barmaid.

Superb episode with lots of funny characters

Richie, Eddie, Spudgun and Dave Hedgehog partake in a number of money-making schemes.

Excellent episode poking fun of early 90s recession era Britain and throwing several funny supporting characters into the mix. We have hilarious scenes at a police line up, the Lamb and Flag, the local pawnbroker and betting shop.

Richie and Eddie are mostly centre stage, but the major strength of this episode is the use of cameo performers. Robert Llewelyn (or Kryton from 'Red Dwarf') is great as the Falkland's veteran who takes a dislike to Richie. Chris Langham is very funny as Tight-Mouth Larry the drunk, Beegees singing, bookie. Brian Croucher has a brief but comical turn as outrageously hard negotiator Harry The B*****d.

Series regulars Christopher Ryan and Steven O'Donnell are typically brilliant as Spudgun and Dave Hedgehog. O'Donnell's banter with Patsy Rowlands at the police line-up is probably my favourite part of the episode along with them all watching helplessly at the progress of 'dead cert' Sad Ken.

    • Trivia
Eddie refers Ted the pawnbroker as Harry The Bastard. A nod to "The Young Ones" Nasty (#2.3) Rik and Ade's earlier sitcom, which Vyvyan and Mike rented a video player from Harry the Bastard, manager of the Rumbellows electrical goods store video so they can watch video nasties, which they owe him $500, if they don't return the video player.

PC Cholmondley-Smythe wears chevrons which denotes the rank of Sergeant, not PC (Police Constable).

[Richie and Eddie are taking part in an identity parade, the suspect hasn't arrived yet. A slouching man enters]

Richard 'Richie' Richard: Oh dear, whoops-a-daisy, here he comes, dear, oh dear, oh dear! Look at that Neanderthal gait! Probably only learned to walk upright this morning! Hanging's too good for you, buster! Hah! I'm surprised he manages to mug old ladies with his knuckles scraping along the pavement like that!

      [impersonates a gorilla]

Richard 'Richie' Richard: Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh! Hello! Hello!

      [twiddles his lips]

Richard 'Richie' Richard: Me respectable citizen! Ugh, it's making my flesh creep. You vile scuuum!

Chief Inspector Grobbelaar: Do you mind?

Richard 'Richie' Richard: Oh, it talks! It talks! What are you going to do next, go on a quest for fire?

Chief Inspector Grobbelaar: Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am Chief Inspector Grobbelaar.

Richard 'Richie' Richard: [mimicking him in the gorilla/Neanderthal voice] Chief Inspector Grobb...

[he realises who the man is]

      Richard 'Richie' Richard: Ah.

[he looks awkward then gives the Chief Inspector a smarmy smile]
