Ending Happy

I've been watching a CSI marathon on Hulu. This is our favorite episode of the whole series.

This was probably one of the best in a long time. I like the miniature killer, but this was way more fun ... if one can say death can be fun. The Devil from Constantine makes a great Pimp. Don't know who the old Poet or the main Pleasure provider were but they did great. The voice over in the snake scene was very well done. I was touched personally by just a few moments of screen time, Wish I could remember who the actress was. Had a hard time with the "madam," she did well with what she had, winking & all that, but I just didn't know quite what to make of her. When I see it again I am sure I will get a lot more out of her work, but the first time through it was tough. She was in probably the best scene in the movie, when they were sampling her DNA, the thing with the cigarette, Magnificent.

Over all I gotta say the boxer had a bad day.

On average, the writers create an episode I consider to be a "one-off" or "off-beat" type of episodes. Sure, there is still at least one murder to be solved and the CSIs approach the situation in their normal serious approach. Helps break things up a bit.

However, this episode stands out for plenty of reasons. The boxer named "Morales" is not the biggest guy involved, but as a boxer, he never gives up and continues to train hoping to someday win one of his bouts. Morales is also a bit crude and not the most likable guy.

Adding to the situation is Coroner/M. E. Doc Robinson. Each time a CSI team says they're pretty sure they've figured out who and what killed Morales, the Doctor may initially agree with their hypothesis, but his next line would be "that isn't what killed him". Once they're finally able to put all the pieces together and see the big picture, it's clear that while what Doc Robinson told each CSI was correct, so were they!? Catherine makes an observation part way through the episode that turned out to be pretty accurate.. and funny.

The washed-up boxer Lorenzo "Happy" Morales is found dead, drowned in the swimming pool of a brothel where he lives. The CSI team investigates the case and soon they learn that the hookers did not like him, only Doris, who lives with the owner George 'Binky' Babinkian. He tells Capt. Brass that he was training Happy in the academy he built in the brothel. They follow several evidences together with the coroner Dr. Robbins and they learn the following: Happy was poisoned by snake venom but did not die; Donna has given a low-job to him after eating shell fish, giving anaphylactic shock to his organism. When Connor shot him with a crossbow, he saved his life with a laryngoscopy; then he is hit by a crowbar by Dreama. In the end, he dies drowned.

"Ending Happy" is a funny episode of "CSI" with a very dark humor. As far as Dr. Robbins find new evidences, Dr. Robbins helps to find new suspect. In the end, no suspect is guilt for the murder of the responsible Lorenzo "Happy" Morales. My vote is seven.

This episode has EVERYTHING! From Milton, the retiree who quotes Longfellow, to a romantic comment between Grissom and Sarah. Who dunnit? Everyone! Cause of death? Everything! A great guest cast, headed by James Whitmore, does an outstanding job in a super setting. A whorehouse in the desert, populated with old coots, beautiful ladies, an inept local constable, and strung out Happy hisself- one of those characters "who needed killing." If Emmy awards aren't given to the writers, cast, special effects artists- it will really be a CRIME.

I really, really need some comic relief, and this episode just made me grin from ear to ear. Thank you, CSI producers- this was the best of the best.
