Good plot development and storylines, crossing the "Law" and "Order" sides of the equation.
Plenty for everyone, reopening cases and digging deep.
Jamie and Eddie end up with a sensible accommodation of their careers - and are still talking. Threat assessments throw up an anomaly which is dealt with, highlighting loss and duty.

The family themes continue from the high points at the conclusion of Season Eight.
Danny applies good common sense but he realises that closure is overrated.
Erin settles into the new role whilst Jamie and Eddie move forward, doing good work as they navigate the practicalities of working as an engaged couple. A resolution emerges.
The sergeants exam results arrive and The Family swings together.
This was a great episode and gets us into S09 smoothly. Viewed December 2025.

OK, we are not talking Goren and Eames quality here - but a good impersonation some 20 years later. This episode apparently saw the light of day on FEB2024 and made it onto UK TV on 02DEC2025 (nearly two years later).
Smart male cop, bookish, nerdy and obsessive, with female partner who is just as good.
Plausible script with a few red herrings (not just in the water!).
The theme tune takes us back to 1991. The look and feel is traditional. But the "Order" part of "Law & Order" shows up for about TWO MINUTES of the running time!
Maybe they were still casting the main part of the "Order" side of the equation in this furst-ever episode.
This first episode was workmanlike and passable - not achieving the pace, style and investigative "nous" of the old Goren & Eames pairing (although the female cop here HAS had a child after getting pregnant on the second date).
Their banter is reasonable, respectful and unforced. It held my attention.
So:
I'm going to stick with it for S01Ep02 next Tuesday: it may take a few weeks to get into its stride...
