Led Zeppelin a luat nastere din cenusa formatiei The Yardbirds. Jimmy Page s-a alaturat formatiei spre sfarsit, jucand un rol important in ultimul lor album (Little Gems - 1967), care a inclus unele parti la chitara ale lui John Paul Jones.

In vara lui 1968, Keith Relf si James McCarty au plecat de la The Yardbirds, lasand lui Jimmy Page si Chris Dreja (chitara bass) drepturile asupra numelui formatiei si obligatia unui nou tur in toamna aceluiasi an. Page a pornit cautarile pentru un nou vocalist si baterist. Initial, a dorit sa-l ia pe Terry Reid si pe bateristul formatiei Procol Harum, B.J. Wilson, dar nici unul dintre acestia nu s-a putut alatura formatiei. Reid a sugerat sa-l contacteze pe Robert Plant, care canta cu o formatie numita Hobbstweedle. Dupa ce l-a auzit cantand, Plant l-a rugat pe Page sa se alature formatiei. In aceasi luna Chris Dreja a renuntat la noul proiect.

Dupa plecarea acestuia, John Paul Jones s-a alaturat formatiei ca basist. Plant i-a sugerat lui Page sa-l coopteze pe John Bonham, bateristul fostei formatiei a lui Plant, The Band Of Joy. Bonham a trebuit convis sa se alature formatiei, datorita faptului ca era deja curtat de alti artisti, care ii ofereau mult mai multi bani. In septembrie, Bonham s-a decis sa se alature formatiei. Sub numele de The New Yardbirds, formatia si-a indeplinit datoriile lasate de fosta formatie Yardbirds la sfarsitul lunii septembrie. In luna urmatoare, au inregistrat albumul de debut in mai putin de 30 de ore. Tot in aceasi luna, formatia si-a schimbat numele in Led Zeppelin.

Formatia si-a asigurat un contract cu Atlantic Records in Statele Unite inainte de sfarsitul anului. La inceputul anului 1969, Led Zeppelin a pornit in primul lor turneu american, care a pavat calea pentru albumul lor de debut. La doua luni de la lansare, Led Zeppelin I a urcat in U.S. Top Ten. Tot in anul 1969, formatia a plecat in turneu in Anglia si SUA. In timpul petrecut pe drum, au inregistrat piesele pentru cel de-al doilea album al lor, Led Zeppelin II, care a fost lansat in Octombrie 1969.

 Ca si albumul precedent, Led Zeppelin II a fost un succes instant, fiind in topuri timp de doua luni de la lansare si petrecand sapte saptamani pe primul loc. Albumul a ajutat la consolidarea renumelui formatiei, iar trupa a petrecut urmatorul an in turnee. Sunetul formatiei a castigat in profunzime cu noul album - Led Zeppelin III. Lansat in Octombrie 1970, albumul e presarat de influente folk britanice.

Pasiunea formatiei pentru folk si mitologie s-a observat si in al patrulea album al lor, Led Zeppelin IV, lansat in 1971. Acest album a avut parte de diversitate muzicala, de la rockul zdrobitor al melodiei “Black Dog” la folkul din “The Battle Of Evermore”, la fel si Stairway To Heaven, care a format podul dintre cele doua genuri.

Stairway To Heaven a fost un hit instant la radio, pana la urma devenind cel mai de succes cantec din istoria radioului; cantecul nu a fost lansat ca single vreodata. Desi albumul nu a ajuns pe locul I in SUA, Led Zeppelin IV a fost cel mai bun album din toate timpurile, vanzarile ajung la 16 milioane de copii in urmatoarele doua decenii si jumatate. 

Led Zeppelin au pornit in turnee ca sa promoveze albumele III si IV, dar au sustinut mai putine concerte decat la celelalte turnee, concentrandu-se mai mult asupra spectacolelor in orase mari.

Lansat in 1973, Houses Of The Holy continua experimentele muzicale ale formatiei, ce cuprind influente funk sau raggae alaturi de rockul si folkul specific formatiei. Succesul albumului Houses Of The Holy a pus la cale un turneu prin SUA care a doborat recorduri de box-office, multe dintre ele fiind detinute de formatia The Beatles.

Concertul de la Madison Square Garden din luna iulie a fost folosit pentru realizarea filmului The Songs Remains The Same, care a fost lansat trei ani mai tarziu.

Dupa turneul din 1973, Led Zeppelin a petrecut un an calm in 1974, fara concerte sau albume noi. In schimb, au stabilit propria casa de discuri, Swan Song, care a lansat, pe langa albumele urmatoare ale formatiei, si albume ale lui Dave Edmuns, Bad Company, The Pretty Thing, etc. Physical Graffiti, un album dublu lansat in 1975, a fost primul lansat de Swan Song. Albumul a fost un succes imediat, urcand in topuri atat in SUA cat si in Anglia. Led Zeppelin au lansat intr-un turneu major in SUA, dar totul a fost anulat in momentul in care Robert Plant si sotia sa au suferit un accident major de masina in timpul vacantei lor in Grecia, iar turneul a fost anulat pentru recuperarea lui Plant. 

Led Zeppelin s-a intors in 1976 cu albumul Presence. Desi albumul a debutat pe primul loc in topurile din SUA si Anglia, aprecierile nu au fost calduroase, in comparatie cu primirea filmului The Song Remains The Same, care a fost lansat in toamna anului 1976.

Led Zeppelin s-au intors pentru un turneu in America in primavara anului 1977. Dupa cateva luni, fiul de 6 ani al lui Plant, Karac, a murit din cauza unei infectii la stomac. Led Zeppelin au anulat imediat restul spectacolelor, dand nastere zvonurilor despre viitorul formatiei. Pentru o vreme, s-a crezut ca Led Zeppelin s-a destramat. Robert Plant si-a petrecut timpul in izolare, pana la sfarsitul verii lui 1978,cand au inceput inregistrarile la studiorile Polar din Suedia. Un an mai tarziu, formatia a cantat in cateva turnee scurte in Europa, in Suedia, Germania, Olanda si Belgia. In august 1979, Led Zeppelin a tinut doua concerte mari la Knebworth; acestea au fost ultimele concerte pe pamant englezesc.

In Through The Out Door, al 8-lea album al formatiei, a fost lansat intr-un final in 1979. A urcat imediat pe primul loc in Anglia si SUA.

In mai 1980, Led Zeppelin pleaca in ultimul lor turneu european. In septembrie,au inceput repetitiile pentru un turneu american. Pe 25 septembrie 1980, John Bonham a fost gasit mort, dupa o betie crunta, a lesinat si s-a inecat in propria voma. In decembrie 1980, Led zeppelin au anuntat ca se destrama, din moment ce nu mai puteau continua fara Bonham.

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

"Stairway to Heaven" is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released in late 1971. It was composed by the band's guitarist Jimmy Page and vocalist Robert Plant for their untitled fourth studio album (usually called Led Zeppelin IV). The song is often regarded as the most popular rock song of all time.
The song has three sections, each one progressively increasing in tempo and volume. The song begins in a slow tempo with acoustic instruments (guitar and recorders) before introducing electric instruments. The final section is an uptempo hard rock arrangement highlighted by Page's guitar solo (considered by many to be one of the greatest ever) accompanying Plant's vocals that end with the plaintive a cappella line: "And she's buying a stairway to heaven."
"Stairway to Heaven" was voted number three in 2000 by VH1 on its list of the 100 Greatest Rock Songs, and was placed at number 31 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It was the most requested song on FM radio stations in the United States in the 1970s, despite never having been commercially released as a single there. In November 2007, through download sales promoting Led Zeppelin's “Mothership” release, "Stairway to Heaven" reached number 37 on the UK Singles Chart.

 

“Stairway to Heaven” este un cantec al trupei engleze de rock Led Zeppelin, lansat spre sfarsitul anului 1971. A fost compus de chitaristul trupei Jimmy Page si vocalistul Robert Plant pentru al patrulea album de studio fara titlu (uzual numit “Led Zeppelin IV”). Cantecul este privit deseori ca cel mai popular cantec rock din toate timpurile.
Cantecul are trei sectiuni, fiecare crescand progresiv  in tempo si volum. Cantecul incepe intr-un tempo lent cu instrumente acustice (chitara si inregistrari) inaintea introducerii instrumentelor electrice. Sectiunea finala este un aranjament inalt de hard rock evidentiat de solo-ul de chitara al lui Page (considerat de multi a fi cel mai mare chitarist), acompaniat de vocea tanguitoare a lui Plant pe versul a cappella:”Si ea cumpara o scara la cer”.
“Stairway to Heaven” a fost votat numarul 3 in 2000 de catre VH1 pe listele sale  la Cele mai mari 100 de cantece rock din toate timpurile. A fost cantecul cel mai cerut la posturile radio FM din Statele Unite in anii ’70, in ciuda faptului ca nu a fost lansat commercial ca single acolo. In noiembrie 2007 printre descarcarile ce promovau albumul “Mothership” al lui Led Zeppelin, “Stairway to Heaven” a atins locul 37 in clasamentul britanic de single-uri.

“The Song Remains the Same” is the live soundtrack album of the concert film of the same name by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. The soundtrack was recorded 27–29 July 1973 and released three years later on 28 September 1976 on Swan Song Records.
The recording of the album and the film took place during three nights of concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden, during the band's 1973 North American tour. All songs were recorded by Eddie Kramer using the Wally Heider Mobile Studio truck, and later mixed at Electric Lady Studios in New York and Trident Studios in London.
Until both the album and the film were remastered and re-released in 2007, there were significant differences between the two in terms of the songs included on each. These differences were as follows:
The film included "Black Dog", but not "Celebration Day".
The soundtrack album included "Celebration Day", but not "Black Dog".
The film also included "Since I've Been Loving You", the introduction to "Heartbreaker", the instrumental "Bron-Yr-Aur" (which appeared on “Physical Graffiti”) and a hurdy-gurdy piece called "Autumn Lake", none of which were featured on the album.
Other tracks which were recorded at Madison Square Garden, but omitted from both the film and the soundtrack album, included "Over The Hills and Far Away", "Misty Mountain Hop", "The Ocean", and "Thank You".

“In Through the Out Door” is the eighth and final studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was recorded over a three-week period in November and December 1978 at ABBA's Polar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, and released by Swan Song Records on 15 August 1979. In 1980, Led Zeppelin disbanded following the death of drummer John Bonham.
The album is a reflection of the personal turmoil that the band members had been going through before and during its recording. Frontman Robert Plant and his wife had gone through a serious car accident, and their young son, Karac, died from a stomach illness, while all four band members also felt weary of dealing with record companies and other associates.
The release became a huge commercial success, particularly in the United States (sitting at the No. 1 slot on Billboard's chart in just its second week on the chart). “In Through the Out Door” was the band's eighth and final studio release to reach the top of the charts in America.

“Houses of the Holy” is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was released on 28 March 1973 by Atlantic Records.
The album benefited from several band members installing studios at home, which allowed them to develop more sophisticated songs and arrangements, and expand their musical style. Several songs subsequently became fixtures in the group's live set, including "The Song Remains the Same", "The Rain Song" and "No Quarter". Other material recorded at the sessions, including the title track, was shelved and released on the later albums “Physical Graffiti” and Coda. All instruments and vocals were provided by the band members Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards), and John Bonham (drums). The album was produced by Jimmy Page, and it was mixed by Eddie Kramer.
The cover was the first by the band to be designed by Hipgnosis and was based on a photograph taken at Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland.
Although critical response was mixed, “Houses of the Holy” became a commercial success, later receiving a Diamond (over 10-million albums sold) certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1999. In 2012, the album was ranked at number 148 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

“Hauses of the Holy” este al cincilea album de studio al trupei engleze de rock Led Zeppelin. A fost lansat la 28 martie 1973 de catre Atlantic Records. Albumul a beneficiat de cateva studiouri de inregistrare ale membrilor trupei, instalate la ei acasa, ceea ce a permis dezvoltarea unor cantece si aranjamente muzicale mai sofisticate, extinzand stilul lor muzical. Cateva cantece au devenit ulterior permanente in lista de concerte a trupei, incluzand “The Song Remain the Same”, “The Rain Song” si “No Quarter”. Alt material inregistrat in sesiuni, incluzand si piesa de titlu, a fost aranjat si lansat  pe albumele ulterioare “Physical Graffiti” si “Coda”. Toate instrumentele si vocile au fost furnizate de catre membrii grupului Robert Plant (vocal), Jimmy Page (chitara), John Paul Jones (bas, claviaturi) si John Bonham (baterie). Albumul a fost produs de Jimmy Page si a fost aranjat de catre Eddie Kramer.
Coperta a fost prima realizata pentru trupa de catre Hipgnosis si a fost bazata pe o fotografie facuta la Giant’s Causeway in Irlanda de nord.

“Presence” is the seventh studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released by Swan Song Records on 31 March 1976. While the album was a commercial success, reaching the top of both the British and American album charts, and achieving a triple-platinum certification in the United States, it received mixed reviews from critics and was the lowest-selling studio album by the band while they were still active.
The album was written and recorded during a difficult time in the band's history, as singer Robert Plant was recuperating from serious injuries he had sustained earlier that year in a car accident. This led to tours being cancelled and the band booking studio time to record “Presence” instead. The entire album was completed in a few weeks, with guitarist and producer Jimmy Page putting in several long shifts to complete recording and mixing. The title came from the strong presence the group felt working together, and the album's artwork from Hipgnosis featured several photographs centred round a mysterious black object, called "The Object".
The album is dominated by Page and Plant compositions, with only one track credited to the entire group, and unlike other Zeppelin albums features no keyboards and little acoustic guitar. Because Plant was still recuperating, the band could not tour to capitalise on the album's release and only two tracks, including ten-minute opener "Achilles Last Stand", were performed live. However, the album has been re-appraised in retrospective reviews for its hard rock dynamics and simplicity compared to the group's other work.

Aceasta a dus la amanarea turneelor si in loc de asta s-a inregistrat “Presence”. Intregul album a fost complet in cateva saptamani, cu chitaristul si producatorul Jimmy Page pus sa lucreze schimburi mai lungi pentru a termina inregistrarea si aranjamentul. Titlul a venit de la sentimentul puternic de prezenta simtit de membrii grupului cat au lucrat impreuna si coperta realizata de Hipgnosis, cuprinzand cateva fotografii, e centrata pe imaginea unui obiect negru, misterios, numit “Obiectul”.
Albumul e dominat de compozitiile lui Page si Plant, cu o singura piesa compusa de intregul grup si neplacut, fata de celelalte albume Zeppelin, fara claviaturi si mica chitara acustica. Deoarece Plant era inca in recuperare trupa nu a putut capitaliza momentul lansarii prin turnee si numai doua piese, incluzand-o sip e cea de deschidere, de 10 minute “Achilles Last Stand”, au fost cantata live. Totusi albumul a fost reapreciat in recenziile de retrospective pentru dinamica sa hard rock si simplitate, comparative cu celelalte lucrari ale trupei.

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (Full album - 1975)

“Physical Graffiti” is the sixth studio album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was released as a double album on 24 February 1975 by the group's new record label, Swan Song Records.
The band wrote and recorded eight new songs for the album in early 1974 at Headley Grange, a country house in Hampshire, which gave them ample time to improvise arrangements and experiment with recording. The total playing time covered three sides of an LP, so they decided to expand it into a double by including previously unreleased tracks from the sessions for the earlier albums Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV and Houses of the Holy. The album covered a range of styles including hard rock, progressive rock, rock 'n' roll and folk. The album was then mixed over summer 1974 and planned for an end-of year release. It was delayed because of the sleeve, which was designed by Peter Corriston and featured a theme around a tenement block in Manhattan, New York.

”Physical Graffiti” was commercially and critically successful upon its release and debuted at number one on album charts in both the US and the UK. It was promoted by a successful US tour and a five-night residency at Earl's Court, London, and has since been viewed as one of the group's strongest albums and the artistic peak of their career. The album has been reissued on CD several times, including an expansive 40th anniversary edition in 2015. “Physical Graffiti” was later certified 16x platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2006, signifying shipments of over eight million copies.

“Physical Graffiti” este al saselea album de studio al trupei engleze de rock Led Zeppelin. A fost lansat in dublu album la 24 februarie 1975 de catre compania de inregistrari a trupei, Swan Song Records.
Trupa a scris si inregistrat opt cantece noi pentru album inca de la inceputul anului 1974 la Headley Grange, o casa la tara in Hampshire, fapt ce le-a furnizat mult timp pentru a improviza aranjamente si experimente cu inregistrarea. Timpul total de muzica a acoperit trei parti ale unui LP, asa ca s-au decis sa se extinda intr-un dublu album, incluzand piese anterioare nelansate, din sesiunile timpurii pentru Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV si Houses of the Holy. Albumul a acoperit o gama de stiluri incluzand hard rock, progressiv rock, rock ‘n’ roll si folk. Albumul a fost imbinat in vara lui 1974 si planificat pentru lansare la sfarsit de an. A fost intarziat din cauza copertii, care a fost conceputa de Peter Corriston si expunea o tema cu un bloc cu apartamente de inchiriat din Manhattan, New York.
“Physical Graffiti” a fost un success comercial si de critica chiar de la lansare si a debutat pe locul 1 in ambele chart-uri de albume din Marea Britanie si Statele Unite. A fost promovat de un turneu de succes in Statele Unite si de o rezidenta de cinci nopti la Earl’ Court in Londra si a fost vazut ca unul dintre cele mai puternice albume ale trupei si ca  un varf artistic al carierei ei. Albumul a fost relansat pe CD de cateva ori, incluzand o expansiva aniversare de 40 de ani in 2015. “Physical Graffiti” a fost certificat mai tarziu cu 16x platina in Statele Unite, de catre RIIA, in 2006, semnificand expedierea a peste 8 milioane de copii.
