Gates of Antares Terrain

Some pictures of cheap terrain for Gates of Antares. I wanted to create an alien environment for the game setting, and a selection of cheap aquarium plants and railway model palms seemed the favoured way to go. I chose items of similar colour and based to match the bases on the miniatures. The model palms were sprayed blue and then dry brushed with yellow, these are flaking slightly so if I was to do them again I think I'd coat in pva glue first, I'm hoping a couple of coats of spray varnish will help.

All the aquarium plants and palm models were eBay purchases. I'll be looking to model some rock formations and other bits and pieces in due course.

Beyond the Gates of Antares Strike Vector One: The Xilos Horizon

Finally finished painting the contents of the starter set for Beyond the Gates of Antares, Strike Vector One: The Xilos Horizon the new offering from Warlord Games. I was one week out on my initial target of 2 weeks, not bad considering my deliberations over colours to use.

Other than Foundry Arctic Grey 33 and White the following main colours were used.

GHAR
Army Painter  Desert Yellow - body.

Concord
Vallejo paints - 035 Cadmium Maroon.

Fartok
Vallejo paints - 882 Middlestone.

The bases were created by appling filler, then when dry pva and sand over some of the area of each base with some small gravel applied. The whole base was then given a wash of dirty water (thinned down Burnt Umber, or any dark brown), once dry the sanded areas were drybrushed with Foundry Base Sand 10. The areas of filler were then painted with Foundry Terracotta 37 Shade A and dry brushed with B and C. The Stones were painted with Foundry Vivid Blue 22 Shade A and drybrushed with B and C. Finally the stones were given a light drybrushing with Foundry Yellow 2 C.

I'm continuing to look for inspiration for suitable vegetation for my Gates of Antares games, but for now all is ready to give the rules a try out.

Concord strike first sighting

This post contains the Concord forces that I've managed to paint from the Gates of Antares starter set. All the drones are painted, just leaving 10 troopers and the two metal figures included in the set to complete.
I've decided to go with a gloss varnish. I do have some ideas on the final basing but I'm waiting to finish all the painting and then I'll do them as a batch.

Ghar have landed

Finished painting the Ghar that came with the Gates of Antares starter box. The bases are unfinished as I haven't decided on a style for overall basing of the Ghar and Concord troops as yet, once I've painted some Concord I'll have a better idea.

I've departed from the colour scheme on the painted examples in the book, and each of the Ghar have different markings on their heads. These models were easy to put together and fun to paint.

So, one week in and the first element from the box set painted, still on course for my 2 week target. I noticed that Warlord Games have started releasing how to play videos, these are a great idea and I'll be pointing the kids towards them so they can start to pick up the mechanisms for the game in preparation  for our first battle.
