Barons' War additions (15)

I'm still working my way through the Barons'' War lead mountain/pile of potential although the pickings are now a lot slimmer, there are some lovely models available.

All the bases are from Warbases, their 70x40 vehicle bases work rather well for larger command groups, while for the figure bases I use 2mm thick circular with magnet holes. 

A command stand to represent a mounted King Henry III in our 2nd Barons' War games.

The King figure is King John from Footsore, but I think does credible double duty as his son!

The accompanying Bishop is also from Footsore, while the bannerman is from Crusader Miniatures and the flag staff is a Northstar spear.

The three lions passant decals are again from Footsore. But I really don't like them, way too thin, too little pigment and I practically only use them for the geometry and end up over painting them anyways as they are so bad.

Another command stand representing a Bishop, this one is the Footsore Stephen Langton painted as such, but not a character in the 2nd Barons' War so will likely just be used as a vignette rather than a character.

The bannerman is another Crusader Miniatures one and the banner pole a Northstar spear.

The original figures cross had broken off, so I replaced with the falconry hand from the Wargames Atlantic Mounted Knight Command set and I think it's a nice addition.

This Footsore foot knight is painted to represent Peter de Moutfort, a close ally, but not a relation of Simon de Montfort. He was slain at the Battle of Evesham.

Robin Hood and the Maid Marion, both from Footsore. Robin is on a 30mm base that will allow me to use him as a Champion in our Midgard games, Marion is on the standard 20mm base that I use for foot rank and file.

Four more filthy peasants with spears. One appears to have ideas above is station and has a livery jacket!

Another anget monk and a townsman with club.

I've painted these six to use as random characters and townsfolk during our games.

The Catweazle figure would make a rather splendid hermit or village idiot.

The guy gesturing with open hand a village elder or market store holder.

The third makes a rather nice pilgrim.

The William Marshall figure, an older knight or lord giving counsel.

Lastly a vignette of a peasant threshing the wheat, the wattle fences are from Renedra.

Barons' War additions (14)

 Another week and another batch of troops join the Barons' War collection!

Gilbert de Clare, 7th Earl of Gloucester. The Earl is a Footsore miniature, while the serjeant carrying his banner is from Crusader Miniatures. 

I was running low on Northstar metal spears and decided to try out the new plastic ones from Northstar, the banner bearer has the first of these! I'll be using a lot more plastic spears in the future.

This next piece is quite cool. I had a Serjeant with a torch from Footsore and wanted to have him lighting a signal beacon.

At the recent Britcon event in Leicester, James picked me up a brazier from Irongate Scenery a really cool piece with built in LED, perfect for the job!

I built up the plinth from a stack of 25mm bases and finished with stonework from the Willis Scenery range. Some dowel was cut up to represent chopped logs and stacked alongside the plinth 

Then because  I like to over complicate things I built a unlit fire, again from chopped dowel which can be replaced with the IGS LED flames when lit! 

The serjeant is painted to represent one of Gilbert de Clares' men.

I think this will be a very cool objective marker in our games.

Another five angry monks have also been added to the few painted last time. Again, all Footsore miniatures.

Another trio of archers and a couple of peasants. 

Lastly a few more shields for use as casualty markers were painted up.

Do I have more than enough Barons' War stuff? Yes. Will I keep adding more? Also yes!

Barons' War additions(13)

Working through painting more of the Footsore Barons' War figures that I acquired in a trade from chum Tony.

The last update was made of of the great and the good, this time it's 20 figures from a much lower strata of society.

This first pair represent Friar Tuck and Little John from the range.

As  Nottingham lad I'm not supposed to say so but it was the Legend of Robin Hood for a reason - he and his merry men didn't exist and were a composite of several stories, many from a later age.

Nice figures anyway!

As you can see I'm back to the joy of painting the occasional gambeson!

A dozen more archers were added to the collection.

I know that it's useful to note the palette used for the base coats for future reference, all Vallejo Model Colour: Russian Uniform WWI, Luftwaffe Uniform, German Field Grey, Flat Earth, Chocolate Brown, Black Grey, Basalt Grey, Stone Grey.

Lastly a pair of fighty monks.

I'm well over half way through what was added to the pile of potential, so hopefully more of the same soon!

Imperialist Heroes

 

What started as a small project to square off against the undead has rolled on like a juggernaut and eclipsed the children of the night, but the end was in sight.

These four heroes are all that remained to be painted*

This Imperialist Commander model is rather exquisite, although being a single print is a bugger to paint the detail! And there is plenty of detail, the carrier pigeons, the juvenile griffon, and everything.

The standard bearer broke twice during painting, hence all the glue on the legs, when his sword blade pinged off the third time, I left it off.

A second Imperialist Hero on foot, I already one done, but this gives a few more options.

I had a broken Gendarme left over so stuck back on the plume and tail and added another Champion.

Finally a second Witch Hunter to purge the blasphemous foe.

*Truth be told I could likely squeeze another spear unit from the figures left over from making the Tercios.
