More Imperialists

We're back from our vacation in the Veneto and here are some more Imperial troops that I was working on both before we left and since we returned.

The first unit is another battalia of shielded spearmen to strengthen the line, as usual, these are Forest Dragon models printed by MGS Miniatures and bought through Etsy.

A second unit of crossbowmen have also been added.

There were enough spare crossbowmen to also add a detachment of skirmishers.

I've also added a second detachment of Forlorn Hope with swords and pistols.

I was a bit of a clumsy oaf when painting these and a drop meant that quite a few swords were broken and plumes were lost!

In a break from the Royal Blue and Amber, I decided to relive my classic fantasy days of yore and add a unit of Ogres to the army.

There was a suitable ogre left over to use as a heroic leader in the force.

Finally, our Midgard games often require one or more objective to hold and capture, so  bought these files from Cromarty Forge and chum Martyn printed them off for me.

Like the earlier Vampire force, I've got way more troops than any reasonable person would need for a game but the painting continues....

A Trio of Towers

Another post of some lovely Cromarty Forge terrain, this time a trio of towers, printed for me by chum Steve.

The first is a watchtower that can grace a hill in our Midgard battles, for an idea of size, the based is 50mm diameter.

All the towers are painted in a similar fashion. The stonework is painted VMC Flat Earth, then a few bricks picked out in Neutral Grey, US Tan Earth and Flat Brown. The roof slates are Luftwaffe Uniform with a few picked out in Neutral Grey. The rendering is US Tan Earth.

The whole lot is then washed with AP Strong Tone, then the stonework highlighted with a light drybrush of Iraqi Sand then Pale Sand while the roofs are given a light drybrush of Pale Grey. The moss patches are added using Dirty Down Moss.

Next up is the windmill, pretty much the same method, while the red painted wood is done with Flat Brown highlighted up adding a bit of Iraqi Sand, the canvas sails are US Tan Earth highlighted up adding more Pale Sand.

This is also on a 50mm diameter base.

Last up is the Wizards tower, again the same stonework methods, the deck and dome is VMC Black Grey, then Basalt Grey and a final high-light of Pale Grey. The telescope and lightning conductor is Brass highlighted with a touch of gold. The lenses on the telescope are done using a non-glassy glass cheat starting from Dark Prussian Blue.

The base on this is a little larger given it's footprint.

These make some splendid objective markers and decoration for our games.

The Necropolis grows

During the past few weeks I've also added some more pieces of scatter terrain to the Necropolis, representing a couple of additional family plots.

I bought the STL files directly from Cromarty Forge and chum Steve printed them out for me.

The first plot is a couple of Mausoleums and row of gravestones, watched over by a sombre statue.

The second plot is very similar, just with a third Mausoleum added.

I also finished the last Forest Dragon Vampire that I had, this fellow will represent the Vampire Count mounted on his Nightmare, two lesser Thralls hold his sword and lance, while a swarm of bats rise into the air. A really characterful piece as we've come to expect!

With the final Mausoleum, I added another statue and more grave stones to make a killing zone template for our Midgard games.

The Danse Macabre moves on to a new venue

The Analogue Hobbies painting challenge is over for another year. That music may have stopped but my brushes kept going with more additions to the undead force that I'm building for Midgard.

Five new Vampires join the court to add to the Nosferatu painted earlier.

Firstly, this Her Ladyship mounted on a Winged Horror. In Midgard terms this would be a Hero with the Beastmaster trait mounted on a Flying Beast Monstrosity

The gravestones are from Cromarty Forge.

It's very impressive, but I doubt she'll see any action in any of our regular club games, it would only be fair to warn an opponent in advance.

This Vampire is another lovely figure, although my plan of a blood red cloak does rather ruin the effect of the blood dripping from his left hand!. It's the time of year you need to be careful when varnishing outside, looks like something got stuck on his collar!

Another model of Her Ladyship, this time mounted on a Zombie horse.

The third vampire wears the skin of a slain beast, not sure why but I thought that strawberry blonde woudl suit him.

A third version of Her Ladyship, this time on foot walking over what appears to be the door of the crypt she just emerged from.

A unit of Vampire Knights in the quest to slake their thirst for blood.

Now I have these, the skeleton knights that were my heavy hitters in the previous game will be downgraded to support them.

A pair of Überwald Blacks to transport the Vampires to their next destination.

I painted the horses zombie rather than skeletal.

You can never have enough brainless zombies, so I've added a third unit.

The undead lack any light infantry troops to skirmish ahead and cover rough ground, so I added a couple of units of Ghouls to the mix.

I'm not keen on how these turned out, some of the "I'd like a green tinge to the flesh" has come out as green flesh.

Cromarty Forge do lovely Gothic church and graveyard so I bought the STL files and a chum printed them off for me.

The church did not print out so well at the first attempt so I bodged a load of green-stuff into the bad bits to make the ivy you see on this wall.

One of the gargoyles also did not come out, but that painted up as appropriate wear and tear.

The churchyard is lovely with three mausoleums and lots of graves.

The moss effects are from "Dirty Down" and I think adds to the overall look. The railings and gates are done in raw iron to give a aged effect.

Not sure if the gates are keeping Her Ladyship out or have failed in their task of keeping her in!

I thought I'd do some themed mighty deeds for our games, so a pack of Greenstuff World skulls were purchased and given a wash of soft tone.

I also made a killing zone template, in theme with the force it's a dilapidated graveyard.

This is pretty much all the undead done - 23 units and 16 characters. I can likely field more than enough for our club games of Midgard that are usually at about 300-400pts with plenty of alternate options available.
