The Dave - Lois / Poof!

Label : Self-Released
Year : 1984/85
Country : US
Format : C45

Here are two tape rips sent to me by the great Tony Coulter. A long time coming, these. I have posted this group on here in the past, probably half a decade ago on one of the Outward Inward comps, but here they are in full swing. Bizarro indie with improvisational folk inclinations. A good comparison would be the vastly underrated Flying Nun outfit Marie & the Atom, of which I'm hoping to see a reissue campaign come to light sometime soon.

These two rips were split by myself, going by whatever the submitter at Discogs thought the track listings were. It's all so weirdly structured that you cannot be too sure of where one song ends and another interlude begins and vice versa. In any case, these are buried gems in the junkyard (in a good way!) of the 80s cassette underground.

Various Artists - Cruel Beasts

Label : Maboroshi no Sekai - B...018
Country : Japan
Year : 1994
Format : C45

Something special for your Sunday. I'd like to think this is rare, but for all I know this could be shelf fodder in its homeland. This is an early release on the very cool Maboroshi no Sekai label which produced similar albums of this sonic ilk throughout its continued existence. The sounds presented here are of a diverse type all deriving from that all encompassing "experimental" umbrella. Some tracks branch off from the textures sprouted forth from bands such as the Boredoms and the Ruins, the spectrum of noisy mayhem and technically proficient chaos.

One may recognize some of the names here, with Japanese underground luminaries like Otomo Yoshihide, Koichi Makigami, and Seiichi Yamamoto making an appearance and also one of my favorite groups from that very subterranean artspace, Harpy. In fact, Harpy's percussionist itoken is the one who chose these artists for this tape. You may recognize him from my Zuppa di Pesce posts awhile back, I really respect his work. Some bands included are avant-proggers Soh Band and psych-noisters Children Coup D'Etat, who turn in some impressive performances. A band I don't recognize is Piranezi, jazzy noise rock for busted eardrums. Lots of unheard tracks here, don't miss it.

Lossless, so don't lose out!

Tapes Of Wrath - Recycled

Label : RRRecords / Statutory Tape
Year : n/a
Country : US
Format : C45

Another one of these. This time it's from Tapes Of Wrath, who seem to have been a one-off project from one of RRR's locked groove conceptual pieces. Not much more to say about this 'un, collage noise madness, taped over the greatest hits of Sir Elton John of all people.

Human Flesh - Life In Reverse

Label : Ladd-Frith

Country : US

Year : ?

Format : C45

Trying something a little different here, giving a voice to this oft voiceless blog here. Alain Neffe is a minimal synth/wave/core/post- musician most popular for his Bene Gesserit and Pseudo Code. Among his other various nicely named projects was Human Flesh. This is a tape of the so-named project of which I own. Released in various incarnations both on the cultural cassette powerhouse that is/was Ladd-Frith and Neffe's own aptly christened Insane Music. Packaged with "Meditation and Fears", it was self-released on tape and later on CDr. This standalone version was also later reissued on Ladd 'n' Frith.
The music itself is quite nice, if you like minimal synthetics like I do.
