Come to the Window...

Come to the window tonight...

Become Friends with the Night
and The Silence...
Let The Silence strengthen you.
Surrender the day into
the Night;
The Silence
and
Find the Treasure of Silence
that lifts the veil...

Hear the OM of Silence
that pervades all sound.
Fathom the depth of OM
as it reverberates *through*
the Night;
the pulse of the Universe;
the Rhythm of Life
sung - in silence - by The Silence.

Drop into The Silence and rest...
The mind lets go
rocked by The Rhythm
of Silence
that cradles
the weariness...

Love begins to soften the eyes,
the brow, the tension;
Love of The Silence;
the Love that inhabits The Silence.

The day dissolves,
fixations loosen,
thoughts become insignificant.
There is only the Aliveness of the Night
enfolded in Silence...

Everything is magical
when seen from the window
of Silence...

The Rhythm of Rest...

I flow on the swells of the Great Sea.
Out beyond the thought stream,
in the deep calm of the Stillness
rising and falling in the endless, subtle
rhythmic movement beyond time;
a Stillness that ebbs and flows naturally.

Here is the gateway to deep Rest,
an attunement with the deep inner Silence,
where everything falls into
the Rhythm of Rest.

I allow myself to be taken by
"The Rhythm",
suspended in the mystical breath of the Cosmos,
the Silence of pre-existence.
Its Stillness holds me, sustains and supports me -
Is deeply Me...

And I realize everything is suspended in this
Essential Rhythm of Life.
In some mysterious way,
We breath, and are breathed by
"The Rhythm."

Immersing myself in "The Rhythm"
I deeply Rest
in harmony with the Universe...

Ommmmmm......

Pathless Pilgrim - a meandering...

I am a "pathless pilgrim" - and yet there is focus...
I now know I am not "called" to any particular
"spiritual path", although I have meandered down many
over the course of my life.  I am no longer "seeking"
anything "out there" - not "God", nor even "enlightenment."
  And still, there is a sense of a "pilgrimage" of sorts; an
exploration of the Inner Landscape of "The Mystery."
Plumbing the depths of the mystery of Being within
and experiencing how that unfolds within me -
or better, how it unfolds me...

It has become a way of life actually, a continuous unfoldment,
an ongoing "returning" to the core of my Being; that silent,
still core of Being within, from which my life arises and
emerges as "me."

For what is "God" but that Eternal Essence within;
the Eternal OM of Existence - the Infinite Sound of Being;
the Emptiness that isn't empty; the Silence that isn't silent;
the Stillness that isn't still, but pulsates with The Rhythm of
Life, the Primal Energy that flows within us and through
Existence.  It is the genderless spaciousness of Primordial
Energy where there is no separation or union, just the
Source of Being...

Dancing with the Dark - a meandering

Darkness came to visit -
like a visitor in Rumi's guest house...

I danced with the dark;
afraid to speak the truth to it...

I danced with the dark, keeping silent,
because it was more effective than confronting it...

After months of resisting; trying to find a way out -
I gave up - and just danced;
trying to practice radical acceptance.

When I allowed the dark in,
it felt less intense - almost soothing...
How strange...

When I allowed myself to meet the darkness I felt,
instead of trying to escape from it, or push it away,
or control it - I relaxed and felt a slowing down inside
and discovered that the darkness I felt allowed me to be quiet
inside.  The darkness seemed comforting...
The darkness allowed me to feel what I needed to feel
and say what needed to be said...

I breathed deeply into the darkness -
and rested there...

The "darkness" can be anything;
sadness, grief, depression, anger;
any feeling or emotion that we have labeled
"wrong" or "dark"

OM - the song of Life - comes out of darkness
and creates everything that is -
creating from darkness; creating out of darkness.

What does this darkness need to teach me?  I asked...

Trust the darkness to take you where you need to go...

Everything is embraced/held by "The Mystery",
including what we experience as "darkness."
Nothing is excluded, even the "darkness" however
that manifests in our minds.

You have to be willing to dance with the darkness,
which only means that you are willing to meet it,
to be with it, and not try to push it away;
not resist it as something absent of Light,
but seeing that the darkness is not opposite
of Light.

The Voices of the River - Hermann Hesse

Christopher Robin came down from the Forest to the Bridge,
feeling all sunny and careless, and just as if twice nineteen
didn't matter a bit, as it didn't on such a happy afternoon, and
he thought that if he stood on the bottom rail of the bridge, and
leant over, and watched the river slipping slowly away beneath
him, then he would suddenly know everything that there was
to be known.

- From Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne

Siddartha came to the same realization - that the river offers
access to all knowledge, at least all that is important.  You have
to tune into the river first though. You can't think of it as an
impediment.

It slips slowly by underneath you.  If you tune into it, believe it
might be able to tell you something, it offers unity with all voices,
all goals, all yearnings, sorrows, pleasures, good and evil, the
laughter of the wise as well as the groan of the dying.

If you listen to the river long enough, if you stand on the bottom
rung and tune in, the river offers unity in all things.

~~~
Siddartha listened.  He was so listening intently, completely
absorbed, quite empty, taking in everything.  He felt that he
had now completely learned the art of listening.  He had often
heard all this before, all these numerous voices in the river, but
today they sounded different.  He could no longer distinguish
the different voices - the merry voice from the weeping voice,
the childish voice from the manly voice.  They all belonged to
each other: the lament of those who yearn, the laughter of the
wise, the cry of indignation and the groan of the dying.  They
were all interwoven and interlocked, entwined in a thousand
ways.  And all the voices, all the goals, all the yearnings, all
the sorrows, all the pleasures, all the good and evil, all of them
together was the world.  All of them together was the stream of
events, the music of life.  When Siddartha listened attentively
to this river, to this song of a thousand voices; when he did not
listen to the sorrow or laughter, when he did not bind his soul
to any one particular voice and absorb it in his Self, but heard
them all, the whole, the unity; then the great song of a thousand
voices consisted of one word: OM - perfection.
"Do you hear?" asked Vasudeva's glance once again.
Vasudeva's smile was radiant; it hovered brightly in all the
wrinkles of his old face, as the OM hovered over all the voices
of the river.  His smile was radiant as he looked at this friend,
and now the same smile appeared on Siddartha's face.  His
wound was healing, his pain was dispersing; his Self had
merged into unity.
From that hour Siddartha ceased to fight against his destiny.
There shone on his face the serenity of knowledge, of one who
is no longer confronted with conflict of desires,
who is in harmony with the stream of events, with the stream
 of life, full of sympathy and compassion, surrendering himself
 to the stream, belonging to the unity of all things.
At The Well of "The Sacred"...
At the Well of "The Sacred"
The OM of Existence is heard;
the deep OM -
the Primordial Song and Rhythm
of the Universe...
At the Core of everything is
the sound of OM -
vibrating...
The Primordial Sound of Life
that reverberates through the Cosmos...
Looking into the Sacred Well within
I can hear OM playing - humming -
vibrating...
I come to the Well of "The Sacred" to listen;
to replenish Mind, Body and Soul;
To be Filled;
To feel the Presence of "The Sacred;"
To reclaim my Wholeness again...
Pathless - Fred LaMotte
 I breathe in darkness, breathe out light, but pranayama is
not my way.  I bend and bow and honor the tides in my
spine, but asanas are not my way.
I savor the name of God, but the Word is not my way. I
honor the Guru, but my path has no master.
Though I listen to the songs and suras of the wise, I follow
not the Vedas, the Torah, the Qur'an.
I give to those in need, but the path of seva is not for me.  I
surrender, Lord, but even You, even You, are not my way.
Parasam Gateh, "beyond the beyond," is where I am right now.
With no chant, no altar, no eucharist or puja, I wander in the
forest, offering the silence of cedar, trillium, fern.
At midnight, soundless owl wings, bright knives of un-knowing,
slice through the glory of darkness.  Coyote howl is my song.
And because the light of primeval stars is only now arriving
in my body, I am awake.
Each electron bathes in the glory of its origin.  Every photon
collides with the darkest particle of its other self.  I follow the
wordless path of this breath Om.
But my way is not a journey, it passes neither in nor out, but
shatters every window between seer and seen, sinking every
vessel in the ocean of transparency.
I have trillions of eyes, gazing into the well of eternal aloneness,
where past and future kiss, annihilating time.  This very
moment is the diamond of my awakening.
I achieve the beatific vision of celestial mansions, simply by
gazing at the motionless explosion of a rose.
Every religion a blood-colored petal of this, but I would offer
the whole flower, the wounded bud which opens in all directions
at once.
Where I Am there are no steps, no degrees of initiation, no levels
one to seven: only fragrances, only dissolving.
Each lineage of masters is a pollen mote, but I have sticky feet.
I visit the center, where the nectar is made in secret darkness.
Down where the pistil and stamen touch in a throb of stillness.
Come, drink.....
Threads of Connection - Rig Veda
There is an endless net of threads throughout the Universe.
The horizontal threads are in space.
The vertical threads are in time.
At every crossing of the threads,
there is an individual,
and every individual is a crystal bead.
The Great Light of
Absolute Being
illuminates and penetrates
every crystal bead.
And every crystal bead reflects
not only the the light from every other crystal
in the net, but also every other reflection
through the entire universe...
Uni-Verse: One Sound - Fred LaMotte
"Om is the primordial word.  All that is, was, or will be is Om."
Mandukya Upanishad
"Adau Bhagavan shabda rasahi: In the beginning, the Lord
created the cosmos through a subtle stream of sound."
Rig Veda
Creation is sound.  The universe is sound.  The subtle essence
of light shines in darkness as sound.  Each star has a sound.
Every galaxy is a revolving chord, the harmony of a trillion
worlds.
The atoms of your body are chimes.  Each cell of your body is
a carillon.  Your music vibrates into my sound-body, mine into
yours.  Both are intermingled with that galactic harmony, the
gong of planets.  Our subatomic counterpoint trembles and
dances over the scale of humanity, and humanity's music co-
mingles in the cosmic chorus of angels.
You are a ringing bell.  Who struck you?  Even from a thousand
miles away, I am touched by the song of your body.  Each cell
of my flesh feels and recognizes your key, your rhythmic signature.
The memory of you brings a blue note, a minor seventh, a raga
into my inward ear.
My heart is a receiver of your elegy, and a transmitter of my own
love song.  Inside the ribs of every man and woman, the hollows
of a well-carved instrument resonate, softly playing notes
deeply personal, yet pervading the universe.
With the vibrant sound of our minds, we contribute to the
harmony of All, or we grind out dissonance.  The most
important question we can ask at any moment is, "Do my
thoughts right now create harmony on earth, or disharmony?"
Harmonious thoughts expand creation, bringing light out of
darkness.  Cynical or hateful thoughts unravel creation and
contract our energy, preventing waves of music from
manifesting as light.
We are each a unique resonance of grace notes.  Are you a
morning or an evening raga?  Are you the music of the wind
or rain?  A brook of Spring rain murmuring in the desert?  The
song of melting snow high above tree line, chanting under
stones?  Are you the sound of moonbeams falling softly on the
petals of an amaranth hibiscus, changing their color to burgundy?
The day will come, and now is here, when you will wake in the
morning stunned by a symphony of blossoms, polyphony of sun
and dew.  The day will come, and is now here, when medicine
will be music, and songs will heal us.  The day will come, and
now is here, when listening to vibrations of mantras, O most
silent melody in the ancient brain, will dissolve the mind of
war into pure love.
The day will come, the day is here, when you long for the
Beloved, O nakedness more intimate than form; you merely
call the Beloved's most secret name, and the Beloved is
with you, nearer than this breath!
Taking Responsibility - Pema Chodron
All activities should be done with the intention of speaking
so that another person can hear you, rather than using words
that cause the barriers to go up and the ears to close.  Everything
you say can further  polarize the situation and convince you
[and others] of how separate you are.  On the other hand,
everything you say and do and think can support your desire
to communicate from the Heart, to move closer and
step out of this myth of isolation and separateness that
 we're all caught in.
...you don't have to get frozen in [language] of
loser or winner,
good guy or bad guy...
We have two alternatives.  Either we hold onto our fixed versions
of reality, or we begin to challenge them, and start dissolving
the barriers that we erect between ourselves and the world.
How We Get There - Fred LaMotte
We wonder why everyone is so stressed.  But many of us would
not know who we are without conflict...
Democrat against Republican, socialist against capitalist,
woman vs man, black vs white, vegan vs omnivore,
the enlightened vs the ignorant...
Maybe the answer is never one side vs the other.  Maybe we could
rest the [conflicted] mind in the Heart. Maybe we could all go meet
in Rumi's field, under the stars, beyond the ideas of right and wrong.
How can we get there?
Listen to the Silence.
With great grief for the hatred and violence
in this country...
To feel one's grief is being authentic, allowing
yourself to feel another's grief, the collective grief
of people heartbroken from the trauma of violence. It
softens you, opens the heart and gives you a different lens
with which to see others with a sense of connectedness
and compassion; dissolving the barriers that separate,
allowing a different vision than your own dearly held beliefs
and opinions, whether spiritual or political.  And in that
is a deepening sense of inner peace and equilibrium...
~
2nd photo - the Om (Aum) symbol is a sacred symbol of the
universal name of God (or Ultimate Reality),
Om (Aum) is the ever present "sound"/vibration of
 an already unified Universe, which expresses itself dualistically
in our experience here.
When you are in meditative Silence, listening, you are aware
of it, the Universal Om - the Hum of the Universe.
  It pervades even the chaos,
and every "sound" becomes the sound of OM/Aum singing
the song of the Universe...  Just listen...
One experiences the wholeness of Life,
despite what is happening...
At least that it my experience.
Free to Be
I am free to be...
Free to Be - just as i am...
I/i am Beingness being...
Consciousness awareing...
Self expressing ItSelf;
or whatever word you give
The Mystery...
"I" - dressed up as "me" - "me" as "I" - i/I
Formless as form,
Form as formless...
Opening to The Mystery
we are free to be our unique selves,
just as we are...
When we know this
"something" wakes up inside -
and hums...
Everything is OM -
the hum of Life - humming -
playing in the play of Life
as i/I ~
with a multitude of other expressions of i/I
all playing in the sandbox of Life...
When we let go of the words
and the frameworks of belief and interpretations
we are free just to Be
~ as we are ~
letting go of the concepts of
i/I, I/me and "no-me"
we are
just Life - being lived
as we are.
There is something authentic
in allowing myself to be
as i/I am...
Life is met from a different space ~
the space of acceptance for all...
Play well!
Om is the Sound Inside Silence - Fred LaMotte
Om is not just a chant. Om is the vibration of absolute Silence.
It is the paradox of trembling stillness, Silence rising and falling
in waves of itself.  Creation is born from the womb of a paradox -
Om.
Om is the unstruck sound whose resonant womb bears heaven
and earth, the galaxies, and all the space beyond the rim of time.
Physicists tell us that emptiness shimmers with "fluctuations of
the vacuum" - the virtual photons and electrons of light and energy
that burst forth as the physical universe, created from nothing.
Om is the sound of this fullness in the harmony of emptiness, the
mysterious Word that speaks the worlds out of Silence.  Om is
not human speech, but divine wonder.
...you can hear it.  Just be quiet and listen.  Om is the sound inside
the Silence.
When you truly listen, your mind does not make the noise of
thinking. Then you hear the thunder of quarks and neutrinos.
You hear the chorus of a trillion suns in a single proton.
...Drown in the oceanic waves of quietness.  There is no more
listener, only boundless Listening...
Whispers of the Heart - Stoneman, Rumi, Barrett
There is a whisper,
but it's louder than the wind.
It calls to us, "Come Home.
The story is over,
the pages are worn thin.
Come Home."
It's like a chant,
a sacred OM
underlying all else.
It requires not doing anything,
or going anywhere,
or becoming anything.
If only we see that we are this
whispering sound,
all else will dissolve
into peace.
Rafael Stoneman
Make everything in you an ear,
each atom of being,
and you will hear
at every moment
what the Source
is whispering
to you...
You are the beloved
of The Beloved...
and in every moment,
in every event of your life,
The Beloved
is whispering to you
exactly what you need
to hear and know...
Put your ear to the wall of your heart...
Listen to the whisper of knowing there.
Love will touch you if you are
very still...
All Paths Lead "hOMe"...
“…our lives only make sense when understood as a sacred quest for the True Self.”
“…all human beings are born with the seed of Awake, Conscious mind.
“…this inborn seed of Consciousness will call to us, and, finally will
compel us on our pilgrimage to Awakening…”
”…the True Self for which we are searching
is also searching for us.”
Stephen Cope
Yoga and the Quest for the True Self
See an excerpt from his book here…
“The Self is like a powerful magnet within us.
It draws us gradually to ItSelf…
It is the [Divine] magnet
that is pulling us towards ItSelf.
Thus the process of finding the Self
is a form of Divine Magnetism.”
Contemplative Art:
All Paths Lead “hOMe”
(Unfortunately the photo
is not a good representation.
It flattens the textured look.)
I woke up Monday morning knowing I wanted to get back to painting again, not just the mandala art, but painting on canvas. I pulled out an old canvas that I had been working on last Fall, that I could not redeem.  It had the most awful bright orange color right in the middle of it (wish I had gotten a photo J) – you can still see specks.  WHAT was I thinking! Lol…   So I painted over everything with Green and Cobalt Turqoise – the orginal base colors.  The only form remaining was this cross-like form in the middle (formerly painted orange J).  My painting experience tends to be very visceral. So for whatever reason I started using my finger nail on the layer that I had just painted after it was partially dry, scratching at areas of paint, revealing an almost black layer below – giving the painting a textured, worn Patina-like look. (The top photo gives it more of a blue look, and doesn't really show the detail.) You can see it better in the close-up below.  I then painted the Gold OM/Aum in the middle - ancient symbol of the Infinite - as to what we are constantly being drawn to.
In contemplating this piece, it reminds me that we’re all oxidizing, we’re all returning to our original state of Being, not only physically, but even our sense of self/me is oxidizing - if we are on a path of "awakening."  The sense of "me" gradually wears away as we move into a greater awareness of Being.  No matter how many paths we’ve taken, or how well-worn our path may be, all paths still lead “hOMe” – to the Awakened Self, the Divine within that draws us to ItSelf…
Indra's Net of Jewels Mandala...
Why I am drawn to drawing mandalas, I don’t know.  I especially like the precision and symmetry of sacred geometry; how the language of symbols and patterns come together.  It’s a mystery, like the Cosmos itself… I have started working on black paper, and I think I like it. :)
As I was working with this mandala, a net-like image started to evolve.  It brought to mind Indra’s Net of Jewels.  Although I had heard the term before, I really didn’t know what it meant, so I had to look it up.  An article on Indra’s Net has a good explanation for those who aren’t familiar with it.
Essentially it is a metaphorical symbol attributed to Buddhism and Hinduism/Advaita Vedanta about the interdependence and intereconnectedness of the infinite cosmic matrix of life itself.  Each jewel at an intersection point on the net reflects the essence of all the other jewels, reflecting the same basic nature, mirroring how we each intrinsically reflect and affect each other in a ripple effect in the cosmic network all the time.
The symbol in the circle in the middle is a variation of the Sanskrit symbol for Aum (OM), which is the primordial sound of the Universe that emanates from an infinite cosmic vibration out of the Void, or Emptiness.  It is basically represents the Absolute, or “God”, or the originating Life Force – however we each call that inherent essence of Being…
“Ultimately there is light and love and intelligence
in this Universe.
And we are it.
We carry that within us.
It’s not just something ‘out there.’
It is within us
and this is what
we are trying to
re-connect with -
our original light,
love and intelligence,
which is who we are.
Wonders From the Depths of Being...
Bask in the passion of Truth – of Life;
Let yourself deepen into the
Depths
of the
Nameless Ocean of Being,
and become aware
of the
Truth of Being
that you are…
Mystic Meandering
Meditative Writings
July 2012
Wonder of wonders, I may have discovered my reason to get up in the morning. J  It seems it is to *experience* the Adventure of Being – whether one calls it Being, Awareness, Consciousness, Existence, Essential Nature, True Nature, Buddha Nature, Christ Consciousness, The Beloved, The Great Msytery, Emptiness, Love, etc.  Any name we give it is merely a description, a characteristic, a quality, an attribute.  But what is this Presence – this Ubiquitous Presence that just IS, that we *feel* as the very basis of our being, of life, of living?  I recently experienced it as the primal passion of Being, the Passion of Being for living ItSelf - here… There’s an Aliveness that wells up, that wants to know ItSelf and be known – intimately - to be acknowledged, experienced, and to be expressed.  Beingness Itself, beyond the mask of “me”, wanting to experience and express ItSelf – as life – as us.  Have you felt it…
I listen to and experience the depths of Being through sitting meditation, through becoming intimately *aware* of Beingness at the depths of Silence, aware of what is Aware of every experience, every thought, every feeling.  Aware of the fluidity, the movement and the tangible depth of Being.  It is Being, expressing ItSelf *as* life.  There is a subtle tingling, a “vibration” of “livingness” going on continuously – unendingly – at the depths of Being… It’s wondrously amazing. The “Emptiness” of Existence is alive and constantly generating Itself in the vibration called life.  There is a deep resonance within the depths of Being – a deep primordial hum of “livingness” – the silent hum of the Universe that vibrates all life into Existence – OM.  It is a deep Aliveness that cannot be interpreted or labeled.  It is not even really “Joy.”  It’s not even “Awareness”.  I can only describe it as a natural, ongoing, all pervasive “Knowingness” – Omniscience – “Omness” (is that a word?) J  But that’s just my experience…  How do you experience the depths of Being – if you care to share…
And in truth, what wants to *be* and just *is* cannot be put into words! Even though we try :) Being has to be experienced – felt – known internally.  It requires complete openness to and immersion in the depths of Being, without agenda - untethered; a willingness to dive deep, to be still, to be aware, to ask to know the Truth of Existence, to listen at the depths of Being and go beyond everything that we *think* we know conceptually - and just know intuitively with the Heart…
Are we willing to *know* with child-like wonder that we *are* the living, breathing Om of the Universe, that we *are* Beingness itself – reverberating through time and timelessness…
Now that’s a reason to get up in the morning! J
The Abode of Awareness...
Sitting in the effulgence of
Silent Awareness…
Returning
to the welcoming abode
of
“The Beloved”
The deep space of
A w a r e n e s s
keeps pulling me in
Enticing me
to be aware of Awareness:
to acknowledge Its Presence…
To
listen
I give it a capital “A” – Awareness
because it is the Aware Consciousness
out of which this “I” thought came;
that “I” has taken form from -
that “we” all have…
I sometimes call it “The Beloved”…
It has many names – this Awareness
that we are,
that we emerged from
as Life ItSelf;
and is no-name as well…
The Unknown…
Sitting in the abode of Awareness
I remember the feel of
ITs Presence;
feeling the transparency of
the boundaryless ”connection;”
the endless s p a c i o u s n e s s
that awares Life living;
that experiences everything
as its own
unlit light...
Life living ItSelf
in
the vast
and
rhythmic
sound of Living…
Sounding every aspect of Itself,
as if getting a feel for its
own depth,
and its own surface landscape;
aware of it all as ItSelf…
I had forgotten – once again -
this inner Alive Awareness
that knows us intimately
as ItSelf…
Our pain, sorrow, grief;
our laughter and joy,
are inexplicably
ITs own
Inseparable
It knows our shadow
as ITs Light,
and embraces
all darkness
as ITs own -
because
IT is -
ITs own…
Light…
that knows
no darkness…
The grief, the loss,
the sadness, the suffering…
All ITs own;
feeling what we feel,
experiencing what we experience
as ItSelf…
Ever-present
Ever-aware
Ever-open
to all experience…
Not an empty, cold, conceptual
hollow barrel of nothingness…
But the Vastness of Life intimately living ItSelf…
OMing Existence into existence…
Breathing ItSelf into Life -
into the beauty that IT is…
Breathing ItSelf
into every wound of pain
and suffering
with ITs soft caress of
L o v e…
Loving Present Awareness
that knows our Hearts
as its own,
and dances with
Joy
in
the
delight
of
knowing
it
all
.
.
.
I had forgotten THIS…
The feel of this deep intimacy
in ITs complete and utter Embrace;
ITs total enfoldment;
ITs inclusiveness
of all that we are.
Forgotten the once known
innocence of
being
touched
by such a Vastness
of
Loving Awareness…
Opening to ITs touch…
“I” step back into the
awareness of
the
living, breathing
abode
of
A w a r e n e s s
