    Bonds are Usury

    Understanding government bonds as state-sponsored usury does not require abolishing all government borrowing overnight. It requires recognising that the current system represents policy choices that can be changed. The legal frameworks forcing bond dependence could be repealed. Wealth taxation could replace borrowing from the wealthy. Public banking could eliminate private intermediation fees. The first step toward alternatives is abandoning the fiction that government bonds represent necessary financial instruments. They are usury contracts that enrich creditors whilst constraining public policy. Naming this reality accurately is the foundation for reclaiming democratic sovereignty from the bond markets.
