A Christmas card came to me from an precious American friend. The card tells me about "Hope," so lovely... The friend always cheers me up. 

"Of all the forces that make for a better world, none is so powerful as hope. 

With hope, one can think, one can work, one can dream. 

If you have hope, you have everything."

Parramatta City Brass Band Plays Xmas Carols

ParramattaCity Brass Band played Christmas carols for us, residents and anyone in Centenary Square. The Band welcomed me. Lovely to see the band playing a wonderful music freebie for music lovers : any races, homeless people, people with disability, and whatever the background is. 

In the band, each different personality interested me. A young very shy man made me smile. His grand ma and a mum were there, too. They should be very proud of the son. “How long have you been playing a trumpet?” I asked. He had played it before a kindy. Aw, me, too. I do not remember when I started to draw. I’ve loved drawing from very an early stage of life such as three or four?  

Each member has a strong feeling to her/his own instrument that is quite expensive. I had a chat with another lady with a trumpet. She spent several thousand dollars in it. Me, too, have had spent similar amount in materials every year. I wondered where she could find a place to practice individually. She sometimes used a mute. My suggestion, “Early in the morning at a beach!” brightened up her. “Beach!” Yes, no one would complain about sounds only waves. I sketched down her in black and white.  

I will colour the lady with a trumpet next time.

Sketch Nativity @ St Mary Cathedral

We, Sydney Sketch Club went to St Mary cathedral to sketch their famous "life size nativity." I so much enjoyed sketching the nativity for the first time that I had longed for sketching in my life. The famous scene that Jesus was born had many symbolic animals, in my eyes. A donkey, a white dove (in a shepherd's hand) and sheep which has meanings and roles in Bible. I imagined... and a little bit changed statues -- Mary and Joseph are smiling at a little Jesus. Baby Jesus is smiling back to them.  

The Bible is an interesting book. It does not tell us in which season Jesus was born or his appearance such as race, height etc. Do you know? The Bible does not have the depiction of Jesus's laugh and smile. I often wonder and imagine when He smiled and laughed. Whilst sketching, I was thinking over, when He was born, He had no Christmas tree nor Santa Clause etc.... 

After the sketching, the Sydney Sketch Club members had a very friendly dinner, plus, my graffiti, a portrait session! It was a great fun and members love it. Usually, I respect new members and they become my "victims," hehehe?! Sketching people always makes me happy. Insanely happy Sadami keeps on laughing from a heart! Members said "You never stop!" I smiled at their say. I have to admit "I can't stop it." 

It was really good and a great comfort for me to join meetings again. Nice. Same minded members cheer me up in a friendly mood. Thank you, organiser Jennifer!! I also thank you for all other members, particularly, models, who gave me nice chats over dinner and while sketching!

The left shoulder is healing and less painful. I'm doing rehab of the left wrist. I'll get well!

Merry Xmas & Happy New Year!

Thank you for your wonderful support all through this 2014. With your cheers, I could achieve many projects this year, particularly, in publishing industry. It's ongoing in 2015. The publication of a frist trade picture book, "Moon" excites me most!!

2015 will be very busy though, I will do my best for work and find time in creating fine art, especially, for "portraits." 

"Santa on an Off Day"

Today, I could catch up Sydney sketch club members in the last meeting of 2014. Very nice to see old friends and new faces. Close friends celebrated my good news in publications. So sweet! I'd make time as much as possible to join sketch meetings next year. 

Also, if I could find time, I want to do something in a welfare area like I did for Wesley Mission's inclusive art work project. It will be my pay back to society.

Christmas Carol & "Fair Go" Sketching

I've submitted colours done so far. A short break! Yey!
Now, a Christmas season! I love listening to Christmas carols, especially, organised by school kids! Oh, their voices are so cute and beautiful. (*I personally believe their chant is an angels' hymn!) Audience appreciate their singing and dancing. Certainly, children have practiced for so many hours. We should say special thanks for teachers, too. 

When school children realise my sketching, they have a great interest in me. Some pupils nudge each other and wave at me. (Hey, kids, look at your teacher, not me!) After the choir, they dash to me. 
"Can I have a look?" Sure, why not!
They try to guess my models and tell each other, "That's you." I was sure that modeled children would be happy and not focused kids could get disappointed. That bummer was easily gussed before sketching. So, I did a bit "trick"!

BTW, Friends, have you ever heard of a "fair go"? In Australian English, "fair go" implies equal rights and egalitarianism.
According to a Macqrie dictionary, 
In Australian and New Zealand English, (Colloquial) 
Noun 1. a fair or reasonable course of action :
Eg) Do you think that's a fair go?
2. a chance to get on with something without interference or distraction :
Eg) The chairperson pleaded for silence and a fair go for the speaker.

Interjection 3. an apeal for fairness and or reason.
Eg) Fair go, mate!
Friends, do you notice something in the sample sentences above, particularly, in conversations? Yes, a speaker asks/demands a information reciever to do a right thing in a speaker's disadvantaged contex and unfairness.

Now, you get a phrase, "fair go" user actually wants for justice, equality and accesibility of resources. So, a "fair go" comes up in a welfare, a social system, politics, sports and almost in any Ausrtalian social phases. It is an interesting expression and a controversial topic from time to time in Australian society. 

Back to the topic, sketching! I do fair go sketching for kids. How do I do it? I secretly mixed up some children's appearances and made one picture. I do not choose a specific child for a model! Yes, it means my singing child is no one in the choir. I keep it private for children and just let them guess as they like. (they are having a fun to guess who's who.)
A brave boy asks (commands?!) me to "Draw me!" Sorry, dear, I cannot pick up one person. "Fair go."

Regarding fair go, may that phrase will be fully achieved in society. Christmas is really a lovely time in a year. A city is full of love, joy and fun. We enjoy parties, catching up, family reunion, exchanging cards, charities and events. I hope we can keep this sweet feeling whole through the year, every day. May love, peace and fair go will pour out on the earth.

Christmas Carol & "Fair Go" Sketching

Hi, Friends, how are you? Aren't we busy?
Christmas and the end of the year is coming near. I'd like to dedicate this work for Friends in winter right now. Yes, spring is certainly coming up. Any time, hope stays with us. It's all up to us; how we see the world. Pre-Admission Consultation on the hand surgery went well. My childhood bad memory about hospital makes me a bit nervous. A kind nurse gave me this quote,

"Let us not burden our remembrance with

Lovely! Spot on. Being stuck is wasting time. Long time ago, I decided to be "carefree" in a healthy way. Wash off negative memories. My stress buster is long swimming that dusts off the heart and the soul.
However, I check my resolutions for 2011.
1) Upload the blog every Monday like before.
I did it, even though now I do not do it because of the hand.
2) Explore watercolor.
I did. Regarding how to handle a background, I've begun to find solutions. Be brave. 3) Challenge landscape.
I did and joined a sketch club (Urban Sketchers Australia).4) More illustrations, focus on story telling. Illustrate a classic story.
I did it and have the ongoing projectʚ(ˆ◡ˆ)ɞ.
5) Lots of cartoons. Stress busters.
I did. (*Regarding this cartoon, I always talk to any cleaner with special thanks. All cleaners have got surprised at me, "You said to me?!" Of course. Friends, just a few seconds for thank U make a big difference.) 6) Life drawing. Watercolor "directly" on paper.
Not joined life drawing class, but always carefully observed bodies on streets.
Direct painting --eg) the first uploaded work --- is fascinating. Want to explore more. Need more time and experiences.
7) Still Life, especially, "Flowers."I did some.

8) Develop/pin down my ideas/quick drawings.
I did. Some are left on the drawing board.9) Just DO it, Sadami!!
YES, I did it!

In 2011, Got several Art Awards and the picture book project. An extraordinarily good year.I'm not going to drag bad memories, as I mentioned above. The past is past. Face reality, check it and move on---that's enough and nice. After refreshing, I hope myself to keep only nice memories.I saw the Santa Clause working for fundraising. Children were enjoying candies. Heart-warming to see happy kids and the Santa.Wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!!I sincerely hope your 2011 memories are cheerful. Let us step into 2012 with a light heart!
