Kids Ice Skating

Hi, Friends, how are you?Are you enjoying summer or winter? We, Australians are in the middle of winter and school holidays! Children are so cute on an open ice rink in Parramatta (27 June - 14 July). I hope my sketches will send you kids and parents bouncing voices!  

People look at my sketching, but all respect me (thank u!). A mom showed my sketch to her crying daughter who had slipped badly. My work made her happy and she stopped crying!!

The boy above tried very hard to walk to his mom. His tip toe walking was very charming. Balancing is tricky. We often slip away and cannot always stay well. Woops! 
"That's all right! It happens!" Mom and Dad cheer up kids. Can you hear them? Any parents and care givers call their kids' names and cry out cheers. 

The boy below got stranded with a frown face after slipping away. Ah, life is sometimes not easy. Hang in there, dear! You stand up again. Go, go!!  

Well, this little girl was very smart. (...or I should say her brother or parents good idea?). She was sitting on a penguin brother pushing.  All what she got to do was looking after a little monkey on her back!

But whatever happens, moms are here to hug you and support you!! Probably, a mother's voice and a child's cry is the first and the most fundamental call in our human relationships. Oh, my most favorite scene is a mother's love for children and children's response, vice versa. It's very touchy to sketch little skaters.

Very lovely to see those intimate human interactions and my privilege to sketch them. 

Oh, yes, in addition, I'd say special thanks for securities and skating rink staff. They remember me well, "Oh, you were a last year's artist!" Yes! Particularly, I'd say thank you for a security who watches the rink and cares for settings all night long. Then, we can enjoy safety and have a wonderful event daily. The skate rink staff and securities invite me for skating. Nice!! We are having a great fun!

Ice Skating & Life Experinece

I enjoyed sketching skating children. We are in the middle of winter and school holidays. Parramatta Council has set an open air ice skate rink like a last year. An event, "Winterlight" is from June 30th to July 16th, 10:00 AM – 9.00 PM Daily. 

I'll take you to the rink!  
Most children experice skating for the first time. Some kids get very scared and "walk" like "tiptoe, balancing.... Oooops!" But children get so excited, too!  

This girl looked so charming after skating. I wondered what she was thinking of. 

Skating is challening. Some children cling to a fence. Many parents take photos and cheer up kids.(I saw little children crying out. Their parents picked up kids, but with a big laugh in love.) 

How cute  these slipping kids!  Really fallen angels!
The more, slip on the ice, the sooner we learn skating. One mother said to me with a wink, "Just she will have some bruises tomorrow and ok!" Yes! Skating is much like life experience in general. We need to be brave to challenge new things and get how to handle it! 

While chilren are "struggling", professionals are skating beautifully.  

Very elegant! (*Ohh..., their beautiful skating makes me forget about friction, force and gravity.)  Practice makes perfect.   

Yes, we are having a great fun! The skate rink staff well remember me, a sketcher and invite me for skating. Well, not sure, it is appropriate for the leg, but I want to try it. 

Let's challenge new things and learn it.

Sketch Movement : Ice Skating & Falling Kids

We're enjoying skating in the middle of winter! Council has set an ice skating rink in front of Parramatta Town Hall. At the opening ceremony, this happy young man showed off a big kiss mark, awaiting his girl friend performing an ice dance. What a hot man in this dreadful winter!OK, this week, I'd like to chat over "skating," particularly, slipping kids on a skate rink. Most children seem to be not so familiar with skating. Children enjoys "slip, sliding away ʚ(ˆ◡ˆ)ɞ ° ·. •*• ♫° • ♫."
Great fun and luxury for me to sketch slipping kids. You may think it's hard to draw movements, in fact, NOT. Just look at slipping children carefully. Find a pattern of serial actions. Once, the pattern is found, pick up the most impressive scene. Very exciting for me to catch the critical moments of "unbalancing," "falling" and following movements.

Some children--most are boys-- bravely challenge an ice rink. Oh, physics experiments, objects cannot stand well on a surface without friction?! But children soon learn how to skate and begin to enjoy a smooth run, even though a bit different from "elegant."







Very young kids and girls are awkward. They walk with Penguins. Not bad. Wobbling is very cute and even pretty like ducklings. Parents are happy to take photos.Soon, children realize my sketching. Some hung on the wall and won't go away from me. A sketcher becomes popular at once anywhere.
"Can you draw me?"
"Well, Sweetie, I'm sketching slipping kids. If there's any drama, I may draw you..."
The girl, actually, quite a good skater, dares to perform a big stumble.
"No, Sweetie, I want to sketch natural movements." We have a laugh.I do not use photos at all to capture figures.
In the observation, when children wobble, their hands' positions are very interesting. A head's angle and position is so fascinating, too. I look and draw from varied angles, as many as possible.Once, my eyes understand the movements, I can drawing children with simple lines. The lesser, the better. Simple lines are clearer than too many lines. For me, catching the pattern or the connection of each movement is the key. After getting it, rebuilding movements on paper is not so hard. Even without looking at subjects, you can make fresh and lively work in a studio.

So, I always sketch and have fun!
