Bright, contrasty sunshine isn't generally the best for photos but it does make for some interesting shadows and details. Here are some that caught my eye around the 5 Rise Locks.

Selfie
It seems so normal to call these 'selfies' now, doesn't it? Funny how a new word can become so quickly accepted as common parlance. This is me, my hat (my trusty Tilley hat, such a good investment) and my camera, getting up close and personal with a dry stone wall!

Seeing patterns
I loved the shadow pattern made by these chairs. It was hard to decide how to make a picture out of it. I'm sure there was one... not sure if I found it!

Shadows of the past
Saltaire Arts Trail 2018
Leeds Photographic Society once again held their annual exhibition on the top floor of Salts Mill. It's always interesting to see work from other camera clubs and they have a high standard, though I thought there was little that was really innovative. One of the issues I have with camera clubs is that we all tend to churn out similar work, driven to some extent by what we think will score highly with competition judges: gritty mono portraits, wildlife shots, sports action, a few landscapes. Leeds PS do have one lady who produces very attractive still life images; they're a bit different.
I was really more thrilled (as always) with the feeling of being in the raw, un-refurbished and vast space of a former spinning shed in the mill. When I'm up there I can almost hear the clatter of ghostly machines. The sun was streaming in through the skylights, making such interesting plays of light and shade. That always appeals to me.

Tiptoe through the tulips
Tulips are one of my favourite flowers. There were some tumbling out of a container in that blousy, loose kind of way they have as they mature. Even the shadows they threw looked attractive. Truly a case of tiptoeing through them!

Bridge shadows
The Three Rise Bridge in Bingley, a pedestrian walkway over the busy Bingley bypass, is not the most exciting or beautiful bridge structure I've ever come across but it does cast quite interesting shadows on a sunny day.

Seaside shadows
A couple of shadow pattern pictures that I spotted whilst out in the sunshine by Crosby beach, near Liverpool.

Windows
Ambling around Bradford on a sunny day, I kept noticing interesting (to me anyway) shapes and shadows in some of the more modern architecture.
The innocent blind cord and its shadow, below, had taken on a look of menace.
It was the colours, below, that sold this one to me.

Shadow variations
A brief spell of bright sunshine means shadows - and chance to play a little. This is one of the original Victorian fire escapes on the main mill building of the Victoria Mills complex, now converted into apartments.
I like it in mono but it also makes an interesting colour study, with the blue tones over-saturated.
