Huge Eileen Hull Sale + Mini Book

Hi all! Today I'm sharing a project I made with one of my favorite dies from Eileen Hull - the Passport Book die. It's on sale this weekend at Sizzix for a great price! I love how easy this die makes it to create mini books.

I created a 24 page book by using the die to cut 6 double pages. I nested them in sets of two, then tied them to the binding using Tim Holtz's jute string. The die makes it so easy! I added lots of pockets and chipboard elements using the sets from G45. I added a couple of foldouts to make it more interesting. I could have worked on this for days - it's so much fun!

I kept the cover fairly simple, just added a matted botanical print with a couple elements popped out, and a word band from Tim Holtz.

For the binding, I covered a piece of chipboard with Tim's textile surfaces then cut the piece and adhered it to the front and back covers. I added a border along the front edge. The photos make this book look so big, but it only measures 3.5" x 5".

Halloween Mini Accordion Album

Hi all! I hope you're not getting tired of my Halloween projects, because I have another one for you! This time it's a little mini album that I think you're going to love.

I created this project for this month's challenge from Inspiration Emporium. By taking Eileen Hull's Mini Album die and turning it sideways, I created a portfolio. And here's the fun part...

I added envelopes to create accordion pockets that hold tags. Perfect for scrapbooking your Halloween memories!

Here's how it came together:

  1. I started with envelopes from Walmart that measured 4 3/4" x 6 1/2". I sealed them and then cut 1 3/4" off of one edge.
  2. Next, I mixed some Brushed Corduroy Distress ink with water and misted the envelopes. The new Distress Stain sprays would be perfect for this, but I don't have them yet. :(
  3. When the envelopes were dry I added a strip of Scor-tape to the top back of each envelope.
  4. I cut Ranger's #10 tags down to 5" so that they would fit into the envelopes. I added various trims to the top and decorated them with paper from My Mind's Eye.
  5. To create the album cover, I adhered more paper from MME to a piece of cream mat board and die cut it with Eileen's Mini Album die. I decorated the front with dies from Eileen and coordinating papers.
  6. For the spine of the book, I scored a 4 3/4" x 3" piece of black cardstock every 1/4" and then folded it accordion style.
  7. Next, I added Scor-tape to hold the envelopes in place and adhered the spine to the book. (If I did this again I would adhere the pages to the spine first - this was a learning experience!)
  8. Finally, I adhered the envelopes to the spine and then to each other.
To give the accordion part a more finished look, I added Tim Holtz's Tissue Tape to the edges. To create the closures, I used the album die to cut two closure pieces from Grungeboard, I painted them black and then added brads. Velcro dots secure them to the album cover.

I love that this little album can sit up on its own and be a decor piece, as well as an album. I hope you're inspired to make one of your own. It would make an adorable Christmas album as well!

Art with Heart Challenge - Floral Wedding Album

Hi all! Eileen Hull's Art with Heart challenge inspired me to make this pretty wedding album for my daughter and her husband. They just celebrated their first wedding anniversary and I thought it would make a perfect gift for them!

How gorgeous are these flowers?! By just inking the fronts, you get a great contrast when they're curled...and the Perfect Pearls spray gives them the prettiest shimmer. I am also very excited about the Liquid Pearls stamens! A few months ago I was trying to figure out how to make these myself and happened upon the most simple yet elegant solution. Read below to see how this sweet wedding album came together.

Begin by covering a piece of ScoreBoards mat board (front and back) with decorative paper. Since the paper I used was only 6x6, I had to piece it together. The spine will be covered, so it was ok to have a seam. Insert the Decorative Frame die into the Movers and Shapers opening of the Mini Album die and cut your album.

To create the pages for the book, fold cardstock in half and cut using the album die, aligning the fold just below the first score line. Punch holes in the pages and thread with a single piece of idea-ology Paper Twine. Punch two holes in the spine of the book, thread the strings through, and tie.

Now let's make our flowers! Cut several flowers from white cardstock using the Layered Flowers die from Eileen Hull. Sponge with various colors of Distress ink and then mist heavily with Perfect Pearls Mist. You want to have them fairly saturated for the next step.

Take your dampened flowers and form them around a dowel, or the end of a paintbrush. Remove and let dry. This will give them a great, vintage texture.

To create the stamens, cut a 3" length of Paper Twine and separate into two pieces. Fold each in half.

Next, dispense a small amount of Buttercup Liquid Pearls onto a nonstick craft sheet. Dip each end of the string into the Pearls. The Pearls will naturally form a perfect little droplet shape on the end. Hang the stamens to dry, making sure they don't touch anything.

To create the flowers, stack several sets of petals. Gather a few sets of stamens together and insert into the opening in the flower. Add a dab of glue on the back to hold in place. When dry, trim the Paper String.

To complete the album, cut a piece of burlap paper using the album die, aligning it along the cutting area for the spine. Adhere a piece of Crinkle Ribbon to it and then adhere the burlap to the cover. Cut a piece of thin cardstock using Karen Burniston's Chevron die and cover with gold glitter. When dry, adhere to the bottom on the book. Add your flowers and a length of pearl trim, and you're done!

For the cover photo, I chose an image that would fit the opening and then adhered it to the first page. I added more photos to fill the book. Mine is fairly simple, because that's my daughter's style, but you could really go crazy with more embellishments, etc.

Have you joined the Art with Heart Challenge? The theme this month is May Flowers and we would love to have you play along. One lucky winner will receive a great prize package!

The dies I used can be found at Sizzix and Inspiration Emporium via the links below. Be sure and use my coupon code (at IE only) to save 10% off your order!

This project is also a great fit for Inspiration Emporium's Celebrate! challenge. You can find all the details here. Hope you can play along with both of these fun challenges.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful week!
