Theme Thursday - Orange

I wasn't planning on making anything for this week's Theme Thursday challenge, but I had cleaned up a little bit in my studio and thought I deserved a little art time! I started making a tag using the wrinkle free distress technique. Then, I was looking through my scrap tin and came across a background I'd made a few months ago using a technique called Pigment Scrunch from the Feb/March issue of the Technique Junkie newsletter. Ooooh, it was so cool I abandoned my tag and decided to work with the piece I'd found.

It had a grungy look to begin with, so I did some spray painting using a stencil and a piece of Grungeboard waste. All stamps are from I Brake for Stamps.

Doesn't it look kind of like that Basic Grey paper from a few years ago?

Created ByHand Challenge - Blobs & Spatters

For today's Created Byhand challenge I made a quick skinny. The background is made using the Simple Green Spritz technique from the Apr/May '08 Technique Junkie newsletter. I added stamps from Oxford Impressions and Tim Holtz.

Not sure if I'm loving the new TH clear stamps - they smell funky, I tore one getting it off the sheet (I've never done that, ever. Some of them are connected and I didn't realize that when I was peeling one off!), they stain instantly, and they're weirdly sticky. On the plus side, they're really thick, much thicker than normal acrylic stamps, and the images are fantastic. Maybe I just need to play around with them more. My problem is that I am very much a RUBBER stamp lover, but I couldn't resist all those sets!

Theme Thursday - Eggs, Nests or Birds

A quick skinny (I'm getting really addicted to these!) for this week's Theme Thursday. I think the background is a Technique Junkie tech called AI Float. I think. Sometimes I make up a bunch of backgrounds and then don't remember which tech I used! I thought it was just perfect with the little boy from Lisa's Altered Art. Stamps are all from Time to Stamp/I Brake for Stamps. I absolutely LOVE Kristy's two bird sheets!

Wednesday Stamper - Skinny

Oxford Impressions has just released yet another set of lovely French stamps! When I saw that the Wednesday Stamper theme was 'skinnies' I knew I had to use them. They are so beautiful and romantic - perfect for Spring! Click to see a larger image. It's hard to see, but I used a bit of Tim Holtz's Distress Crackle paint for my background. I wanted to give it a shabby, distressed look.

Theme Thursday - Beach Skinny

Sorry I've been such a slacker lately! I have been working on lots of DT stuff that I can't show you yet. :( I should be done soon tho, and back to having some fun with challenges.

I decided to take a break today and make something for Theme Thursday. Any time there is a Beach theme, I always reach for my Oxford Impressions By the Sea plate. I love these stamps!

Quick & Trashy

I was trying to get my studio in some kind of order today and came across some paper I'd been saving to use for Work Sheet Wonders. I love this concept - it's a great way to recycle and also get some fun backgrounds you'd probably never come up with if you tried. Check out this post on Trish Bee's blog for more info.

I cut my piece down to a skinny size and added a bit more ink and some stamps from Time to Stamp/I Brake for Stamps. Now....back to work. :-(

Theme Thursday - Birds

My stamp club is thinking about doing a Skinny swap, so I used the Theme Thursday challenge to make a sample to show everyone. I did a back to it, thinking I could submit it to the new Simply Skinnies challenge, but the theme there is AIR travel, not just travel, duh. Guess I need to read things better! Oh well, I got to play around and it was fun.

Both pages use the peeled paper technique, but each goes a different direction after that. For the birds I added Shabby Shutters and Worn Lipstick Distress ink and gessoed over that. For the Venezia piece I did a lot of sanding, a bit of gesso, and inked it with Brushed Corduroy, Spiced Marmalade, and Fired Brick Distress ink.

Both the Bird stamps and Venezia stamps are from Oxford Impressions. Don't forget, you still have time to enter your artwork for the Design Team search!

Row House Skinny Pages

I did these recently for a swap on the CCS Yahoo group. The base is watercolor paper painted with acrylics. A few months ago at stamp club my friend Joyce demoed Golden products and this was one of the projects. I came across the 6" square piece while doing some tidying in my studio and thought it would be perfect to cut in half to make my skinny pages. I added some stamps from the new Grunge sheet from I Brake for Stamps - there is also some stenciling in there somewhere. The houses are cut from vintage Bingo cards. The man and woman images are both from Time to Stamp/I Brake for Stamps. The woman is stamped with Stazon on a piece of mica. I added a lot of stitching and then finished by putting the two pieces back to back and stitching them together. I hope she likes it!
