Celebrating the 4th with a Patriotic Camper!

Hi all! Sorry I've been a bit MIA for the last couple weeks. We've started a big landscaping project and I've been up to my knees in dirt and plants! It's been almost impossible to tear myself away to spend time inside, but the idea for this patriotic travel trailer using Eileen Hull's adorable die popped into my head and I had to sit down for a couple hours and make it today!

I am so in love with how it turned out! Eileen's little camper die is so darn cute and is the perfect blank canvas for whatever occasion you want to celebrate. To create my 4th of July version, I first cut the camper out of white mat board. I adhered the paper to the camper body piece and then ran it through the machine again, so that I'd get the correct creasing. It also gives nice, crisp cut lines when you do it that way.

Next, I cut star banners from glitter paper using Eileen's new Banners and Pennants die and adhered them to the camper with Beacon's Zip Dry Adhesive. I used one of the pennant dies from the same set to create a little banner for my camper. I love how the die cut folds over to create a two-toned flag. Brilliant! Tim Holtz's Typeset die spells out USA, and the Rick Rack die from Eileen's Hydrangea set makes a cute border for my paper.

Before assembling the camper, I stamped the ends with Tim Holtz's American Words stamp (one of my faves for patriotic projects). When everything was decorated, I assembled my sweet little camper using Beacon's 3-in-1 glue. So quick and easy!

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - What's in a Name #2

Hi all! Today I'm sharing my second card for Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge. As I mentioned yesterday, the team was asked to choose two or more dies that matched their initials. For today's card, I chose the Spiral Circle Pull Card die, and the Happy Birthday Pop Up die. Since Independence Day in the US is just a couple weeks away, I decided to make a 4th of July card.

I have been dying to make a shaker card with one of Karen's dies, and this was the perfect opportunity! The card was cut from cream cardstock and stamped with stamps from Tim Holtz. Next, I used the same die and cut the circle section of the card from red Kraft Core'dinations, nestling the star inside to create a window. I cut the red circle out, added acetate to the back, and mounted it to the card center, adding the Shimmer Sheetz die cut stars before I adhered it.

After cutting the star for the shaker window, I realized I could use it for the inside of the card! I love the dimension of it. Under the star, I added a burlap circle cut with the card die, then trimmed to fit, plus a circle of blue paper that was cut with the coordinating circle die included in the Spiral Circle set.

To finish the card, I cut a piece of burlap paper with one of the tag dies from Karen's Tags Pivot set and added the 'Happy',  4, and 'th' which were cut from the Happy Birthday set and the ECD Number set.

I absolutely love this card in action! For even more movement, you could use the spiral die that's included in the set to add more stars - I wish I'd done that now! :)

Celebrating the 4th with Pop it Ups!

Happy Independence Day! Today I have a fun patriotic card to share that I made with some of Karen Burniston's new Pop it Ups dies.  I have to admit, the entire card was designed around this fabulous star border - I absolutely love it. Stamps and embellishments from Tim Holtz added the perfect vintage touch!

The card base was cut from white cardstock and inked lightly with Brushed Corduroy Distress ink. To apply the border, I ran blue Kraft Core-dinations cardstock through my Xyron and then die cut it with the Katie Stars Frame Edges dies. I applied the border to my card, then sanded lightly. To add a little sparkle, I used the same die and cut the border from glitter paper. I applied the star cutouts randomly to the negative space on the border.

How cute is this little banner? I used one of the dies from Karen's Lots of Pops die set to cut the individual flags out of burlap paper. They were folded over a length of idea-ology Paper String and glued. I adhered the ejected stars from the border to each little flag. They are too adorable!

For the inner panels, I cut the card panels again, this time out of red Kraft Core-dinations. I removed the center portion and adhered it over the white card. After sanding lightly, I adhered idea-ology trimmings. The images were stamped on white cardstock using Denim Adirondack ink, then cut them with the oval from Karen's Oval Accordion Card die set. (I love mixing and matching her dies - they all go so well together!) Finally, I added a little banner cut from glitter paper using one of the dies from the new Lorna Label pop-up set and added idea-ology Chit Chat stickers.

Easy DIY 4th of July Tray with Craft Attitude!

I'm so excited to be a part of the Craft Attitude 4th of July blog hop! For any of my readers who aren't familiar with this product, it's a transparent printable film that can be applied to just about anything. All you need is an inkjet printer and a surface!

I had a few ideas for projects, but when I came across this clear plastic tray at the Dollar Tree, I thought it would be perfect to customize for a fun 4th of July party piece. Read on to see how to create one yourself.

Supplies: Craft Attitude Adhesive Sheets, 8-Sheet, 8.5 by 11-Inch (even though it says Wood Attitude, it can be used on any surface); Dollar Tree Clear Plastic Tray; Vintage Postcard Clipart - free from Vintage Holiday Crafts; Spray Adhesive; Scissors

Begin by printing the postcard image onto Craft Attitude film. Allow it to dry completely then trim closely and apply spray adhesive to the printed side of the film. Note: since we'll be applying the film to the back of a clear surface, the images do not have to be reversed.

Starting with the center section, adhere one edge of the film to the tray. Carefully peel off the backing and smooth the rest of the printed film into place. Repeat for the other two compartments.

To finish the corners, pinch the excess film at the corners and trim with sharp scissors. Smooth any wrinkles and your project is complete! Since it isn't completely water-safe, I would probably only use this for drier foods like chips and crackers. But it does easily wipe clean and can be reused. So fun!

I was at Michaels picking up a can of spray adhesive for my tray project when I spotted this milk can. Even though I hadn't planned to do another project, I couldn't resist!

This project went together very quickly. I printed out several more vintage postcards, making sure to size them accordingly. Since these would be applied with the printed side to the can, the images needed to be reversed. After letting them dry, I trimmed them, misted with spray adhesive, and applied them to the can. It's hard to see in the photo, but the metallic sheen comes through the image, making it almost look like it's painted onto the can. Very cool!
