In 2014, my uncle gave me his old as he bought a new for pro video work. There was some kind of hardware issue with it, IIRC.

I had one helluva time getting installed on it. It kept failing to install the boot loader, which wasn't . Anyway, I figured I would install . It installed fine, booted fine, performance was fine, NIC supported, but....

It was a Tier 2 architecture. At that time FreeBSD, while supporting multiple ISAs, prioritized them in terms of support with x86-64 being Tier 1. Tier 2 doesn't have nearly the same level of support from the FreeBSD team.

In my case with the G5 only ports, not packages, were available. EVERYTHING had to be compiled and installed. Aside from some shells and other CLI tools, builds took ages and often failed.

Here's more info about the tiers.

Well I have started the process of upgrading my ! First item on the list is the audio interface. Just got the new 4th gen today. Rather large upgrade from my nine year old 2nd gen unit with some cool features.

Unfortunately....I had one helluva time getting it set up. First, my never recognized it as being plugged into any USB port (USB 2, 3, or USB-C) or USB cable used. Second, the control intermittently recognized it but would fail downloading the new . Third, the unit mysteriously powered off during troubleshooting. It is *completely* dead.

I've hooked up the old one again but this was...disappointing. I will start the return process tomorrow morning.

Nesses casos, sim, funciona melhor. 🤙

            ⚖️ Jami segue a Licença Pública Geral GNU ( + ) e o projeto é gerenciado em https://git.jami.net/ 🧑‍💻
