Sunday Snippets - Crafty Roo Stamp

Hi Playmates!

Di has published RESULTS from the previous challenge, so please hop over to the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND to admire her top picks and discover which lucky playmate won the prize. There's still nearly a week left to play in the current challenge if you haven't already done so.

For my homework this week, I thought I’d make a card with an NBUS Crafty Roo stamp to showcase one of the stamps that also happens to be available as part of the prize in the current Snippets Playground Challenge

A6 sized card

Attempting to show you the glossy wings!

Card and matching envelope.

Materials used:

  • Inks: DI - Mustard Seed & Spiced Marmalade for the honeycomb. SU - Pool Party & Night of Navy for the circles. Versafine Onyx Black for everything! Ink pads were dabbed onto an acrylic block and picked up with a waterbrush to paint the card.
  • Stamps: Main stamp with honeycomb and circles is by Crafty Roo; the small bee is from the Julie Hickey “Sunflower Bee” set - plus I used the matching die for the bee; the “Flourish” word is from AALL & Create set #628 “Spread a little Happiness”.
  • Other materials: Foam pads to attach the die-cut bees (all the bees are snippets);  "Sea Breeze" Nuvo Jewel Drops (added to the bee wings).

Bee ATC

Today sees the start of the July Challenge at Tag-Along & ATCs, where Brenda has chosen the theme of "In The Garden" (or anything goes).

As there are lots of bees about in my garden I'm entering under the challenge theme.

ATC

Materials:

  • Smooshed background created using Distress Inks.
  • Bee quote by Julie Hickey
  • Visible Image stamp and die-cut from the "Bee Happy" set
  • Dotty stamp by Funky Fossil (think it was called Claire's Dots, but appears to be retired).
  • Doodled border

13th Blogoversary Snippets Playground Challenge

Hi Playmates!

New Year . . . new challenge.

I'm hosting the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight. So why not take a look at your pile of snippets, make something with them, then enter the 'show and tell' via Mr Linky.

It's the Playground's 13th Blogoversary on 8th January 2025, and to celebrate, there is a special prize available for one lucky winner.

Shaped 60th birthday card

These are the 2 x A4 masterboards I made and used.

Masterboard Details:

  • I took two A4 sheets of 300gsm white card and used my brayer to run purple ink all over to get the first layer down.
  • The next layer was created by brushing ink around a leafy Funky Fossil mask in both blue and purple ink.
  • I used part of the same Funky Fossil leafy stencil/mask set, but with the open stencil this time. I added green paint through the stencil - but I didn't like the effect, so I put the stencil back in place and painted over the green with white acrylic paint.
  • The final layer was added using various stamps and VFC Twilight ink.

To create the card base:

I took a sheet of 300gsm white card measuring 11.5" x 5.75", scored the long edge at 5.75", then folded the front cover in half and folded it back on itself. I cut the masterboards into relevant panels and mounted them onto SU Island Indigo card measuring a quarter of an inch more all around the panel .

I decorated the panels by die cutting various snippets shown in the photo below. I now have snippets of the masterboards left over for future use - so watch this space!

Dies used: Bird & Branch by The Works; Present by Gummiapan; Happy Birthday by Poppy Stamps and the numbers are by Julie Hickey.

The snippets used to decorate the card.

I hope to see you at THE SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND - where the sun always shines.

Sunday Snippets - What's in Sarn's Satchel this week?

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

Here's my homework:

Landscape C6 card (opening on the right hand side)

Card and matching envelope.

MATERIALS:

  • Snippet of pink patterned paper (which was part of a magazine gift) glued to a white card snippet for sturdiness, then die cut with Heffy Doodle Stitched Rectangle dies. I used a further snippet of the same paper to decorate the envelope.
  • Heffy Doodle "Friend" sentiment die, cut from a white snippet.
  • Ancient Marianne flourish die cut from a white snippet.
  • Three little flowers punched out of a white snippet with a discontinued SU flower punch.
  • Julie Hickey Glossies for flower centres, plus a few more added just because!

In my satchel, along with my homework, I've got a tub of Bournville drinking chocolate for making hot chocolate up in the treehouse, plus some chocolate Digestive biscuits in both milk and dark chocolate varieties! Take your pick - personally I love the dark chocolate biccies! Oh, and don't tell Miss Di, but I've been smuggling in some hooch and stashing it around the treehouse ready for the Christmas Party! Wink, wink!

Sunday Snippets - Eclipse Card

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

Here's my homework - a Ruby Wedding Anniversary card using the eclipse technique.

5.75" square card base

A close up of the eclipse technique

My white snippets

In the Playground, we've all been enjoying the rounds of conkers without the interference of health & safety, and so far, apart from a few rapped knuckles, there have been no serious injuries! Vicky even taped marshmallows to her hands to prevent rapped knuckles! It's been fun meeting up in the treehouse afterwards for hot chocolate. Current champion is Lesley G - who appears to have had some advice from Miss Di on how to harden her best conker with vinegar! Hmmm!

Card materials:

  • Heffy Doodle Stitched Square dies (for the 2 main panels)
  • Julie Hickey number and ordinal dies (for the eclipse technique)
  • White card snippets (for die cutting)
  • Aall & Create #565 Wildflower stamp set, stamped in SU Sahara Sand ink onto main panel.
  • Aall & Create #896 Forget Me Not stamp set. My cut-down heart was stamped over the clock image using SU Rich Razzleberry ink. I then stamped the heart again onto copy paper, cut it out and glued it over the top.

PS: Meet you at the Snippets Playground gates on Hallowe'en - Thursday, 31st Oct - to go trick or treating in the neighbourhood. Costumes on and candy bags at the ready!

Sunday Snippets - Eclipse Technique

Hi Playmates!

My satchel is practically bursting at the seams with homework, but there's still plenty of room for a few bottles of hooch, bars of chocolate and packets of crisps ready for After School Club.

I was busy admiring Lesley and Val's cards made using the Eclipse Technique, so, after refreshing my memory by watching Chrissie Stokes's video - I had a go myself. Thanks for the inspiration girls!

5.75 x 5.75" square card

White snippets die cut for the layers.

Details:

  • Julie Hickey "birthday" die to create the Eclipse technique (see THIS YT VIDEO) - die cut from the image panel once, and from white snippets x3.
  • AALL & Create flower stem from stamp set #985 Flower Smudge, stamped in SU Misty Moonlight ink.
  • Heffy Doodle stitched square dies (retired) to die cut the panel and mount.

I went on to make a wedding card (here) after I tried out the technique on the birthday card above, but the wedding card got blogged first!

I have published RESULTS from the previous challenge, so please hop over to the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND to admire the top picks and discover which lucky playmate won the prize.

Have a lovely week.

HAPPY CRAFTING.

A new stamp set! Yippee!

Hi Friends

I already have so many lovely flower stamps, but I fell in love with this Aall & Create set by the talented Tracy Evans ('The Good' #986) and just had to have it!

It arrived yesterday and I IMMEDIATELY set to work! Made 4 cards in quick succession  and I'm sure I'll make many more with this lovely set.

5" square card base.

Orange dye ink was brushed through a small bubbles stencil first, then the flowers were stamped over the top with Versafine Onyx black. The flower petals and circles were painted with yellow and orange dye inks. I also stamped one of the small quotes from the set. Finishing touches were the Julie Hickey Glossies and a hand drawn wiggly line border.

Here's another version with purple bubbles stencilled on and flower petals painted pink and another stamp to ground the image.

5" square card. Sentiment to be added at later date!

ENJOY YOUR DAY!
