Cruel Seas: Convoy attack!

Last week, David and I broke out the Cruel Seas boats and had a thoroughly enjoyable night shooting each other to pieces. (Wargames - one of the few hobbies hobby when you can legitimately beat up your mates). David and I tossed a coin for whgo played which side and David got the allies. I chose three German S85 Schnellboats, and much fun they were. This shot has nothing to do with the actual game, it just looked good as we were getting boats out and setting up! Breaker 1-9, this here is Rubber Duck , looks like we got ourselves a CONVOY ! David had three Fairmile Bs, a Flower class corvette and two tankers (who acted as one) to try to get across table. That's an awful lot of firepower! I am meant to have a larger ship guarding table end, but I've never got round to buying one!   My first shot, at long range, with a bow 20mm gun does this to a tanker! 3d6 and extra damage on a critical, woohoo! (To be honest, I never beat this roll all game). "I don't know, fly ca...

Cruel Seas - Rescue mission.

David and I met at Leighton Buzzard Wargames club this week for some Cruel Seas action. The last time I played was remotely vs the Timecast boys, so it was great to actually get the toys on table vs a real opponent. David chose British, leaving me with my Germans (I only have Brits and Germans, may have to remedy that). We looked through the scenarios and decided on Rescue Party. A clapped out stranded US PT boat needed rescuing, who would get there first? My S-100 boats arrive on opposite corners, gunning their engines. One of these had it's mid-mounted twin 20mm swapped out for the dreaded quad 20mm flak. David's plucky Brits came in at full speed, somewhat shortening my chances for hitting him to 1 on a d10! However, slowing to combat speed at pointblank range does not help you're survivability, no matter how small rolling a 1 will cause an awful lot of damage when a twenty mm cannon opens up. David ganged up on my right-hand S-100, however no matter how many times h...

Remote game of Cruel Seas

Wednesday last week and it was my turn to host a game, remotely, for the chaps. I chose to continue the Cruel Seas campaign I started a few months back . Quick recap. Mark had been promoted to a full lieutenant with a shiny MM to go with his successes from last game, HQ had also gifted him a shiny new Fairmile D MTB (named by the crew HMS Torpedo Boat McConkers Sporren, no don't ask me either). Jonah Ralph had been lent Mark's old boat, Boaty Mc F***face with its armoured deck, while Clive retained command of his lucky ship 'HMS Gladys Ormeriod'. A potent force, especially with a shiny new Dogboat - if it was not having engine troubles, so was crawling with engineers while Mark took her round the sandbar to test the engines. The crescent moon was setting in a clear night, what dangers await out there? The sandbar ahead. Ralph breaks left to explore. Mark looks at his map while pointing out which way to go, portrait by noted war artist Len Siscracked!. Turn 4, and a l...
