Hertel - 'Con spirito' - Concerti & Sinfonie - Capriccio
"Those works by Johann Wilhelm Hertel which survive reflect every step of the stylistic development that led from baroque music to the Viennese classics. Italian composers played a significant role in every phase of this changing culture, as did some important personalities from the Danube region, in particular the two protagonists of the early phase of the Viennese classicism, Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. With the exception of members of the Bach family, the contribution by German composers during the second half of the 18th century was peripheral, although one should not understimate the innovative impact of individual composers from North of the Rhine. Johann Wilhelm Hertel was born in Eisenach on 9 October 1727. (...) Judging by the library he left behind him, Hertel was a musician of great erudition (...) Although Johann Wilhelm Hertel saw himself mainly as a composer of vocal music - oratorios, cantatas and songs - it is his symphonies and concertos which have lasted. (...)"
[Dominik Sackmann in the booklet]Johann Wilhelm Hertel (1727-1789):
Concerto in A minor for Bassoon, Strings and Basso continuo
