J.V. Voříšek - Missa solemnis; V.J. Tomášek - Messa - Štryncl
"Around the turn of the 19th century the traditional structures of the Catholic Church were disrupted in Central Europe. Among other things, the Church had had a restrictive influence on the music performed at masses: for instance, the frequency of performing compositions with an extensive vocal and instru mental apparatus (figurative music) was regulated and there was pressure to reduce secular elements in compositions intended for divine services. In the first decades of the 19th century, however, there was a certain moderation of these restrictions - since music is able to express devoutness, and even enhance it. (...) The masses that originated in this period are noted for their great diversity (...) This period left us an abundant legacy in the area of sacred music, one which, however, is virtually unknown at the present time. (...)"
